    Jakarta

    July 14, 2017 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 30 °C

Landed in Jakarta. Stayed at B Shaw hotel. When we arrived they couldn't find our booking so we thought we had no where to stay. We had difficulty buying a train ticket at the station as all the trains were full.
The next day we waited in a local restaurant for 4 hours where we were being approached by locals asking where we were from. That night we got an overnight train to Yogyakarta.

    Yogyakarta

    July 15, 2017 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

We took a 9 hour overnight train to Yogyakarta. Got to yogya at 5:15am and got a car to The Packer Lodge. The hostel was so amazing, so clean, friendly and in a perfect location (just off Malioboro road). We had so many great people staying in our room like James and Axel from Australia/Germany. Yogya was so cultural and had so many things to do. We went to the market, Prambanan, Borobudur, Ratu Boko and Goa Pindul (with Job from our hostel and Benji from France).Read more

    Mount Bromo & Ijen

    July 21, 2017 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

We did a 2 day/ 2 night tour of Mount Bromo and Ijen. We met Margeaux at the station and got a train to Probolinggo. The train broke down 10 times on the way so a 4 hour journey turned into a 6 hour journey without aircon and water in economy seating. Me and Lily had to wait at Probolinggo for 2 hours for the mini bus to collect us. We had really nice chicken satay for dinner and then went to our accommodation. The guesthouse was very very basic and was freezing cold. The toilet didn't flush so by the time we left, our room smelt like a sewer. We left for Mount Bromo at 3am but couldn't see the sunrise because of the cloud at the viewpoint. We then trekked to the top of the crater which was really difficult, especially with the sand and the heat. Lily struggled a lot. We then drove to our Ijen accommodation where we met so many lovely people: two Dutch guys, a group from South Africa who lived in Vietnam, and English couple and a French dad/daughter. The next day we left for Ijen at 1am and had a very basic breakfast on the drive there (an egg and some bread). The trek up Ijen and into the crater was so so difficult but so worth it. The blue fire was incredible and when the sun rose, the views of the lake were amazing. We bought sulphur statues from the miners and our guide kept hugging me. We then trekked back down to the entrance with Rafaelle from Luxembourg.Read more

    Kuta, Bali

    July 24, 2017 in Indonesia ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

After spending one night in Denpasar we went to Kuta. We went late afternoon so we were only there for the night out. We went out to sky garden where you put 115,000 IDR for unlimited food and drink (between 5-9). We are so much and got so drunk off all the free food and alcohol. Sky garden was amazing and everyone was dancing on the bar. The dj gave me a tshirt and lily went off with a Canadian guy who she slept with behind a temple. We also met Devi from jakarta who was so lovely and so so funny.Read more

    Uluwatu

    July 25, 2017 in Indonesia ⋅ 🌬 28 °C

We stayed at Karma Backpacker House which was really hard to find. We got there then went out for a sunset dinner on Jambarian beach. The sunset was amazing and we had the best fish platter. We also met some lovely girls, Lili from Germany and Mily/Esme/Josie from Tunbridge Wells. The view was so good as the tables were on the sand. The girls left the next day and that night we went to a beach party with our hostel. It was so funny and we all got so so drunk. I slept with a really fit surfer, called Josh from Holland who was sharing our room. At the end of the night, me and Lily convinced the whole shuttle bus to go skinny dipping which was so hilarious as the boys and the Canadian girl were all up for it. I made really good friends with Riley from Canada that night. The next day we went to Uluwatu temple then went to Suluban beach which was so pretty.Read more
