    Arrived 3 hours early to get through all the probing and patting down. Should have had Claire apply for TSA pre check, but it did give me the opportunity to go to the bathroom (again). Had the obligatory expensive Bloody Marys (sure, make it a double) and are now waiting to board. Iceland, here we come! PS.. Thanks Chris for the ride to the airport!!!     The rest of day 1 ( or is it 2?)

    Arrived in Reykjavik after a not too terrible flight. Hit the duty free and a long customs line. Finally out and ready for the car pick up. Unfortunately, the address the renal place sent put the care rental quite a ways away so we hired a cab to take us what ended up being a wild Rav chase. Paid waaay too much to a pretty rude driver to basically be taken across the parking lot in the end. Pretty frustrating but whatever. Drove to the hostel and then went for food!
    Then headed to Sky Lagoon which was wonderful! Felt good to get in the hot water and relax! Had the Skye board, a couple of drinks and did the 7 steps. Drove back to the hostel and tried to stay up some but no go. End of first day.    Okumaya devam et

    Day 2/3 first full day in Reykjavik

    Claire and I figured we would try to stay up as long as possible in order to get ourselves oriented to this time.. needless to say, at 5:00 pm we were both asleep, only to wake up at 10;30pm and again at
    4 am. Got up and headed to the kitchen to make coffee and read. Claire ran, I went for a walk. Cool, breezy day but nice. Ate breakfast and napped ( there's a theme here) got up and explored. Went to the phallus museum, yep, that's right. Ate and then went back to our room to nap. We had a walking food tour at 4;30 with guide "Dave" had lamb ribeye, Icelandic char (alot like salmon) a fish and potato dish, hot dog and then dessert. Oh, and we both tried the disgusting fermented shark. Met a great couple from Colorado, Katie and Casey so we went for drinks after. Went to the Labowsky bar, the drunk rabbit and the garden. Came back to our room to hit the hay. It 10:30 and still pretty light out now, but time to sleep. Tomorrow, we snorkle between the continents!    Okumaya devam et

    Day 3 -exploring

    Claire and I started out today snorkli g between the European and North American tectonic plates. Water temp 35 to 39° and 32 meters deep in places. The water was super clear and clean. Pretty cold hands and lips, but the dry suits were great! We then ventures down the "Gold Circle", to see Gullfoss. This was the most amazing waterfall! Pictures can't even do justice but here they are anyways. Finished the day off at the secret lagoon, which it turns out was actually not a secret at all.
    Back to Reykjovik for some fish and chips! Then bed!    Okumaya devam et

    A long and crazy day

    Day 4 and 5 .. poured rain on Thursday we were really tired and probably a bit jet lagged so we elected to spend the day exploring Reykjavik. Had a nice relaxing day souvenir shopping and a nice dinner. Hung out at the Hostel bar a bit and talked to a couple of teachers from Germany. Went to bed waaaay too late.
    Next day went to pick up our camper and found out it had been canceled 😞 after negotiating, we ended up with a camper but not until 2100. Kind of messed up that day but we went to blue lagoon which was nice. Got the van and headed to Selfrss at 2200.    Okumaya devam et

    Day 4

    Slept in, I think jet lag hit. Raining and Grey outside so easy to do. We decide to stay and extra 2 days so we can do more the ring road. It's hard to pick what you want to do and though we know we will not see everything we are trying to be judicious. Today was a laundry day and a relaxing day. Wandered around downtown Reykjavik. Bought souvenirs, had oce cream and went back to the hostel.Okumaya devam et

    Second night camping

    17 Ağustos 2024, İzlanda ⋅ ⛅ 43 °F

    Got up and headed out at about 1230 .. needed to get groceries etc. Saw some really awesome scenery and waterfalls. Hiked up 464 steps ( yes, I did count them) to the top of Skogafoss and continued on to see some beautiful falls and river canyons. Made it to our next camp spot by 1930, which was much better than last nights 2330. It's really cool at these campsites because they have communal kitchens so everyone e is there fixing there dinner and talking. Hearing all the languages is really great (and humbling since everyone speaks English). It's 2112 so bed time. Tomorrow diamond beach and the estuary where we will hopefully see Puffins.Okumaya devam et

    Third Camp day

    Spent a long day in the truck but finished South Iceland and saw some of Eastern Iceland before heading more inland. The scenery is so different in the different areas, all of it beautiful. Saw the glacier which dropped piece of icebergs into the river which then carried them to the ocean. They get tossed around and then und up on "Diamond" beach; so named because of the many clear pieces of ice. We then headed up and away from the coast where the temp went from sunny and 61° to rainy and 41°. Camping tonight and hoping the heater works all night (unlike the other 2 nights).     Onto the fourth night

    Woke up to really cold and damp weather ( I know, in Iceland?) I already felt crappy with a sore throat amd headache and now feeling worse. We headed out toward Husavik hitting Dettifoss along the way. Really bad and bumpy road but the waterfall was I credible. The amount of water is amazing. We the made it to Husavik in the way north, had lunch and went to the whale museum. We also hit another Geothermal pool since we felt like we have been cold for a solid 24 hours. I have added the pics of the really cool camp site we were at yesterday and Dettifoss.Okumaya devam et

    5th Day camping

    Ok, I cheated some and we stayed at a hotel last night. After there freezing cold camper debacle, and being sick I figured 1 day of a good bight in a warm bed was needed. It worked and I was feeling much better today. We hit Godafoss and Akureyri which, by the way was really cute and I would have loved to spend more time there, but we headed into the highlands. These are rough roads that have few visitors but the scenery is, again, awesome!
