• Today I start my camel safari. It’s not like I’m going to be on a camel travelling between Fez and Marrakesh - but we do have a sunset ride for an hour or so today. It’s another long day in a bus - about 9 hours all up. As per plan we arrived in Mergouza (northwestern Sahara Desert) in enough time to have our fantastic sunset camel experience. It was really beautiful. The sand dunes are so massive and the sand is really fine and moved with a soft silky texture and in the setting sun almost shimmered like gold.
We also stopped for some sand boarding down the dunes on an old snow board. That was fun. We had a self serve bistro style meal - all very nice and then a bit of entertainment around a fire pit and big circle of sand. African style drums being the only instrument and a bit of Arabic song. Our digs are individual tent like structures on concrete pads and lined with garish traditional fabric. Hot and stuffy - so probably won’t sleep too well. I had to leave my door open to let some cool fresh air in - but also let in the night insects - I wasn’t alone on my bed!! And we’re up at 4:30 for an early start. Driving towards Marrakech but staying overnight along the way. It’s been absolutely beautiful and just what I was hoping for - so very happy.
