• Day 44 - Casablanca to Malaga

    September 29 in Morocco

Farewell to Casablanca and Morocco. I’m so glad I had my little holiday away from the Mediterranean. Another dream destination that I just couldn’t not visit while so close to my EpiMedOdy. The deviation was a highlight for me - especially the desert.
But press on I must. So much more in front of me. Spain is a country I’ve devoted the next two weeks. A good amount of time to cover a hop scotch trip travelling mainly along the coast from Malaga in the south all the way up to Figueres in the north east then back to Barcelona.
Today is a train trip from Casablanca to Rabat - then a flight to Malaga. That’s the easy part. The hard bits, sometimes, is navigating public transport to make the connections and then finding the actual address of my digs. Has been challenging and I’ve got a lot coming up in Spain - I’ve just checked - 7. My pack is now pretty much at capacity - so I’m lugging 10kg or so.
I’ve had a really great experience in Morocco. Everyone warned me about personal safety and pick pocketing etc - but you -I did not have one bad or unpleasant experience. Quite the opposite. Everyone who I engaged with were falling over themselves trying to help me or ask me questions about myself and Australia. I had fun negotiating with the sales people - so I have made some purchases for the first time. And get this - I also managed to do a trade - got rid of some stuff that I knew I didn’t need and purchased some traditional clothes to bring home. That was fun and a great experience. I just kept smiling and let myself enjoy the exchange. One thing I’ve learned - go in super super low on first few offers. Always finish on his price above your last offer - or call it - walk away. Sometimes they will then chase for more negotiation. I just treated it with respect and fun.
