    Across Tennessee

    October 19 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

We left Memphis in sunshine, but it soon gave way to clouds. We saw lots and lots of cotton fields in Western Tennessee. As we crossed the mountains there was some color in the trees. As we passed Knoxville we spied a tower with a gold sphere on top. I did not get a photo, but googled it. It was a relic from the 1982 World's Fair. It is a historic landmark called the Sunsphere. The top is made from glass infused with gold dust. Stopped for the night in VA. It is raining now. Home tomorrow.Read more

    Last day in Memphis

    October 18 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

This afternoon we took a boat ride down the Mississippi River. It was a beautiful afternoon. We saw some "grocery" barges. They deliver fuel, fresh water and groceries to barges moving up and down the river so they do not have to stop for supplies. This evening we got a ride in a pink Cadillac from the campground to Marlowe's for BBQ dinner.Read more

    Memphis Pyramid and Beale Street

    October 17 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 15 °C

Today we visited The Memphis Pyramid. It is a Bass Pro Store, The Cypress Lodge and at the top The Lookout restaurant. We perused the store and then took the elevator to the top for lunch and the view of the Mississippi River. We stopped by historic The Peabody Hotel to see the ducks in the fountain. After a few hours of rest Tom, Denise and I took the shuttle to Beale Street. We checked out the stores including A. Schwab, their motto is if we don't have it you don't need it! A family owned store since 1876. Then we went to BB King's Blues Club for live music by The BB King All Star Band and some ribs for dinner!Read more

    Graceland

    October 16 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

Spent all day at Graceland. Walked there from our campground. They had a really nice audio/video tour. Photos of house, living room with stained glass peacocks, foyer with stained glass, the gravesites in the meditation garden, the pink Cadillac and one of his jumpsuits. Delicious lunch at Vernon's BBQ. A two hour nap late this afternoon and then soup with John and Denise and a game of Sticks.Read more

    Texas to Arkansas

    October 14 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Last night's sunset over Texas and then the hunter moon rising over the wind turbines in Texas. We stopped at The Cadillac Ranch soon after leaving our campground this morning. They are along old route 66 west of Amarillo, TX. Bring your own spray paint! We just admired. Next is the leaning water tower in Groom, TX. We drove across Oklahoma and stopped just inside Arkansas for the night. The campground is full of pecan trees. We were invited to pick up as many as we wanted. I got a bag full to take home and roast. Tomorrow Memphis!Read more

    Last day of balloons

    October 14 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

The first photo is Dawn Patrol. The rest are of the mass ascension. I am just trying to give you some idea of how a sky full of balloons look. The pictures just don't do it justice. We got a late start leaving Balloon Fiesta Park. Our friends, John and Denise, could not get their levelers to retract. Problem solved and we are on our way to Amarillo, TX to spend the night. We should arrive around 9:30.Read more

    Balloons and Petroglyphs

    October 12 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 14 °C

Started the day early and watched the Dawn Patrol leave and then the winds brought them back and then they headedt. The mass ascension began and you could see hundreds of balloons in the sky at the same time. The rally provided breakfast burritos today. They were quite tasty with green chilies. Then Tom, Denise and I went to Petroglyph National Monument. We went to the visitor center first for a short movie and then you could drive to 3 different locations to see the petroglyphs. We went to Boca Negra Canyon. Native American ancestors scratched the petroglyphs into the volcanic rock.
Balloon Glow and fireworks yet to come this evening.

    Balloon Glow and Fireworks

    October 12 in the United States ⋅ 🌙 15 °C

The almost full moon rising over the Sandia Mountains. The balloon glow from the field. There must have been at least 100 tethered balloons with burners firing. When the balloons deflated there were 4 sky divers with pyrotechnics and a wonderful fireworks show! Beautiful evening!

    Balloons, balloons, balloons!

    October 11 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 9 °C

Up at 6AM for the Dawn Patrol. The first balloons to go up and test the wind. Then the mass ascension of hundreds of balloons. Then more balloons coming into the field and trying to drop beanbags on a target or throw a ring over a pole. All that was over by 9AM. It was in the 30's this morning. We bundled up. High 60's later in the day.
We had lunch at El Pinto with the whole rally group. Then we visited the Balloon Museum. There is still Balloon Glow and fireworks tonight!
