    Virgina

    September 28, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 27 °C

Cassie was all ready to go. When we crossed the Susquehanna River at Harrisburg it was beautiful. The old aquaduct arches were reflected in the water. I was not quick enough to get the photo. I also missed getting the water tower that was painted like a basket of apples. We had mountains on both sides of us all through Virgina. We drove into a thunderstorm. Had a little wind, some heavy rain and then some showers. We stopped 24 miles short of TN. It was a good day!Read more

  • Across Tennessee

    September 29, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 33 °C

We met up with John and Denise yesterday and traveled together. Denise made dinner for us last night at the Pilot truck stop where we stayed overnight. Today I learned the meaning of " them thar hills of Tennessee". Mountains from the Eastern part of the state to Nashville and hills all the way across 40 to Memphis. Skyline photo is Nashville. As we got closer I could see 8-10 construction cranes. Lots of building going on. The pyramid is in Memphis. Glass top has a restaurant. We may check that out later in the trip. Next the Mighty Mississippi and into Arkansas. Stopping at a Flying J for the night.Read more

  • Arkansas to Oklahoma

    September 30, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

From TN to Little Rock Arkansas was pretty flat. We saw a lot of irrigated fields of cotton, corn, and soy beans. From Little Rock to OK more hills. Oklahoma was rolling hills with lots of cattle and casinos. We also saw 3 extra long flatbed trucks each with a single blade for a wind turbine. Last photo is the Oklahoma City skyline. We stopped here for the night in a campground. We hit a tree when parking and knocked off part of our long slide cover cover. We are figuring that out now. John and Denise had to get a battery charger to charge the battery on their jeep. Such is life!Read more

  • Oklahoma to Texas

    October 1, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

Buffalo being raised at last night's RV park. Slide cover cover issue temporarily taken care of by Tom with John's help, a utility knife and 28 zip ties. So Western Oklahoma was very windy. We saw one gas facility, one oil derick and hundreds of wind turbines. Oklahoma soil was terra cotta colored. The landscape was beautiful. It started to rain as we entered Texas. We saw hundreds more wind turbines but too much rain to get photos. We are in Amarillo, Texas for the night. After 3 days of 80/90 degree weather, it is in the 60's here.Read more

  • Scouting the area

    October 3, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 20 °C

Today we drove around scouting the area and talking to people to get suggestions of where to go and what to see. We drove the musical highway and made a video that I will try to text to you. As you drive along a rumble strip your tires sing America the Beautiful! We also went to Wild Life West zoo. All the animals are native rescues. The park was built by local youth. It was really nice. The animals in the sign were stained glass. There were several of these throughout the park. Tom took animal photos with his good camera and I did plants, juniper, cholla, prickly pear, sage, and mallow.Read more

We ducked into a Mexican restaurant for lunch just before a thunderstorm hit. We went to the visitor center and walked around town a bit. Headed back to our campground via the Turquoise Trail. That will be an adventure for another day.Read more

We continued on to the town of Madrid, a very small town full of fun quirky shops. We had a delicious lunch of smoked pork BBQ sandwiches and sweet potato fries. Then back to the Henderson Store for a few purchases. There are yellow flowers blooming everywhere. They are chamisa. The big tree in front of the store is a cottonwood.Read more

However Tom pulled it together and he lead our caravan of 3 RVs to the park successfully. We had a catered BBQ dinner tonight and heard a talk by 2 balloon pilots. One had a square basket with 2 burners and the other a triangular basket with 1 burner. Took a picture of the mountain at sunset. Supposed to get cold tonight. Hope balloons will go off in the AM.Read more

  • Amazing Day!

Turtle balloon on the ground, blowing up with the fan and then up with hot air burner. So by 8:40 balloons were down so we headed to Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument. High 60's later in the day.
We had lunch at El Pinto with the whole rally group. Then we visited the Balloon Museum. There is still Balloon Glow and fireworks tonight!

  • Across Arkansas to Memphis

    October 15, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 21 °C

It was a rainy travel day. So I did not get any photos. So I decided to post a few I did not post previously. The first is a sunset from our first night in Edgewood, NM. The next 3 are views from the top of the cliff at Tent Rocks National Monument. Oklahoma had the absolute best visitors centers. Staffed by people and loads of free information. Made me want to go back to Oklahoma instead of just traveling through. In New Mexico they told us they were closing most of their visitor centers because with GPS and Google no one is stopping. The buffalo head was in the Rockwell Campground's office. It was just west of Oklahoma City.Read more

  • Across Tennessee

    October 19, 2019 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

We left Memphis in sunshine, but it soon gave way to clouds. We saw lots and lots of cotton fields in Western Tennessee. As we crossed the mountains there was some color in the trees. As we passed Knoxville we spied a tower with a gold sphere on top. I did not get a photo, but googled it. It was a relic from the 1982 World's Fair. It is a historic landmark called the Sunsphere. The top is made from glass infused with gold dust. Stopped for the night in VA. It is raining now. Home tomorrow.Read more
