Bo Kaap is a coloured-muslim neighborhood, very poor. In the 80s, for no reason that anyone can understand, the locals started painting their houses in bright colours, and Bo Kaap became a dangerous but popular touristic designation.
Nowadays, it is facing gentrification, pushing the old inhabitants away. Only 60% of the current inhabitants descend from the original Muslim owners.
