• Nelson & train to Christchurch

    The first stop after crossing to the South Island was Nelson. Like all the other ports in NZ we visited, it was full of cut lumber to be shipped to Chima
    Here, I left the boat overnight and took the 4 hr train to Christchurch where I spend the night. The boat was going there the next day. On the way, we passed a pink salt factory and saw seals swimming and sitti.g on rocks. Christchurch, that's been thru so many devastating earthquakes was quickly rebuilt and is full of pre-fab buildings. In order to brighten the new downtown, they had graffiti artist paint murals. They also boxed all the historic buildings ruble in containers for rebuilding them in the future. The next morning, I visited the local market and had fresh fish at a stall. It had a picture of various fish and Cyprus in the top corner. That afternoon, I took a boat tour on a jetski boat at a local river.Read more
