  • Arrived in Arusha, Tanzania!

    12 Julai 2023, Tanzania ⋅ ☁️ 77 °F

We have arrived! Interesting arrival…the airline changed all our flights from Arusha Airport to Kilimanjaro Airport but neglected to tell us, TIA (this is Africa). The distance is like Colorado Springs to Denver, doable but hassle for our YL friends who are busy already shuttling people around, especially YL Expeditions to climb Kili.
But we are here, and we are thrilled. We were especially excited to see our friend Chris Ayo who was sent to pick us up at Kili Airport! Moses came via motorbike from Arusha Airport so we are all together!
Then we went to Moses house and spent time with his family including his wife Janeth and their many nieces and nephews who live with them! More about all that after we get some food and sleep!

  • Great start to the day meeting friends

    13 Julai 2023, Tanzania ⋅ ☁️ 63 °F

After a great night's sleep (Evelyn - 14 hrs, Elizabeth - 14 hrs, Anna - 13+ hrs, Christian - 12) Moses and Chris picked up up at 10 and we went to the YL Club Building (the only one in ll of Africa) and met two of the local leaders and their families. Edmund and his wife and two kids live in a small home on the property and Magiri's mom and two of his brothers live a couple of blocks away. From there we went to visit with Nancy who was with her mom and sister visiting her father Martin who was in the hospital after surgery for a broken hip. There two other leaders, Veronica and Godson, came by to visit with the family and pray with them. This YL group really are extended family and support each other. We were able to meet the leaders of 5 of the 7 areas Arusha is divided into as well as the families of 3 of thos leaders. Such a privilege to meet them and visit with them.Baca lagi

  • A fun afternoon w/ our Tanzanian family

    13 Julai 2023, Tanzania ⋅ ☁️ 72 °F

The rest of the day we were so blessed to spend time with Moses, Janeth and their 'kids' who are 8 nieces and nephews they are raising who range in age from 9 to 20. After a delicious home cooked meal we spent the afternoon telling stories and playing games with the kids. We took part in the evening bible study of Psalm 88 and wrapped up the evening with some celebratory ice cream and cookies. This day will be a very cherished memory of our trip!

Moses told each of his leaders and their families, how much we've meant to him over the last 10+ years we've known each other and that he considers us his family. Such a humbling day and we are so unbelievably fortunate to know him and be able to finally meet and spend time with his family and be a part of their lives. It sounds cliché but we believe we learn and receive so much more from being a part of his life than we could ever give in return. That's just how it works in God's economy I guess!

  • Bagamoyo Young Life Camp

    16 Julai 2023, Tanzania ⋅ ⛅ 84 °F

Visited and participated in a Young Life Day Camp in Bagamoyo (which means surrender). We then walked to the Mission Cross which marks the spot where slaves led from the heart of Africa were brought to be out on a boat to Zanzibar to be sold at the slave market. This same spot marks where the first Christian Missionaries came to Africa and where they bought what slaves they could to free them and settle them in the town of Bagamoyo. The Mission Cross is a place of reconciliation for people from different African tribes which as a result of slavery did not interact as a result of the past and the scourge that was slavery.Baca lagi

  • The President

    18 Julai 2023, Tanzania ⋅ ☀️ 84 °F

All legitimate businesses in Tanzania have to have a picture of the president in their shop. I was able to visit a local coffee shop yesterday for an iced vanilla latte and snapped this picture.
I would move out of the US if someone made me put a pic up of the current or last POTUS at the offices of Next Up Leadership Group.Baca lagi

Last summer when Anna and I came to London, we had a full day with Caroline and Isabel McDowell, cementing a strong friendship. We have loved staying in touch all year. They braved strikes on the trains and skipped school to meet us for a super fun day in London seeing many sights and checking a lot of boxes!Baca lagi
