    Island Martillo = Penguins

    January 21, 2023 in Argentina ⋅ ⛅ 64 °F

    What an experience!!
This was even more cool than expected.
A tour bus took us to Estancia Harberton which is a beautiful 20k acre private ranch about 1.5 hours out of Ushuaia. We then got in a small Zodiac boat to head over to Island Martillo. As soon as we stepped on the rock beach there are thousands of penguins doing there thing. To top it off there was a King penguin standing tall right in the center of the colony probably 30 yards from us. Seeing a King P. Is rare and not guaranteed.
We walked the island on pathways and there were penguins only 6 inches from our feet.
We saw a penguin standing tall on his nest over the egg. Seeing the penguins play and even fight or just chill and enjoy their territory was a thrill!
Back at the Ranch we took a quick tour of this 200 year old ranch that is still owned and operated by the 6th generation of the family that started it.
It was so beautiful and peaceful. A place you would want to relax and enjoy its surroundings.
Super grateful to experience this with my boys.
    I just love these guys!
