Visa run to Sharm

February 2024
Really needing a bit of a break as we've been hit hard the past couple of months. Our residency was rejected and so we are going on what we hope will be a short visa run and 5 day holiday to press reset on our streak of bad luck. Read more

    Arrival in Sharm

    February 17 in Egypt ⋅ 🌙 16 °C

So, we left turkey after having our residency renewal denied for a visa run and quick holiday. Though we left within the 10 day limit provided to us we still had to pay a fine, which was a bit more than we were expecting at 10,616TL ($353). The plus side is we were concerned we would need to stay out of turkey for 90 days and when we asked we found out there was no ban and our 5 night stay would be more than enough for us to re-enter turkey on new visas. When we arrived in Egypt we had a pleasant surprise though. Because our stay was less than 14 days we didn't need to buy a visa. Joe's Arabic once again proved handy in negotiating with a taxi driver. We checked into our hotel with no issues and are getting ready for bed so we can enjoy the day tomorrow.Read more

    Arrival back to Antalya

    February 22 in Turkey ⋅ ☁️ 10 °C

So after a lovely few days spent sunning and snorkeling in Sharm we trudged back to antalya. We booked a taxi on booking.com which was half the price of anything we could negotiate ourselves. After a smooth flight we landed in Antalya. We were quite concerned when at passport control they pulled us aside asking for our old expired residency permits. We were supposed to be entering on a 90 day visa after leaving and paying our fine. They took us to the airport police and had us stand outside their office for about 10 minutes. No one spoke to us before they sent us on our way. I have a friend who knows someone who did a visa run and the next time they left the country they had to pay another fine even though they were within their 90 day visa.... We will see if joe and I are put in the same position. Now back in Antalya the weather is about 10 degrees colder and the sun is less bright. Looks like we'll have to wait a month or so for the nice weather here to start showing itself.Read more
