The road to Ningaloo Reef

Bruce joined me in Carnarvon and plans to travel with me for as long as we can both live so closely together. A challenge for us!
Leaving Carnarvon we camped in the dunes at the blow holes and the wild weather arrived. Continuous rain and gale force winds resulted in little sleep that night. I did discover my van has a leak which meant wet bedding. - not happy.
The following night we free camped by a dry river bed. In the morning we planned to run up the river bed. Imagine our surprise to find a fast flowing river (photo 1).
We spent a couple of days relaxing at Bullara Station. A 250, 000 acre working station that also derives income from tourism. A very well managed and comfortable spot to chill - the coffee and scones available on site were delicious.
Our introduction to Ningaloo Reef was camping at Mandu Mandu Beach (a part of the National Parks service) and exploring the Gorge and the beaches. Spot the rock wallaby in photo 4. I'm intrigued by how they manage to scale the face of the Gorge.
So many beautiful sunrises, sunsets and starry nights. I'm loving the Australian outback more each day.Read more

Traveler I am back after 20 days in the old country. Had wonderful conversations with family, friends and randomn strangers. Renting a car and driving in Toronto was a challenge. Saw a black bear, garder snake and snapping turtle. Bought books. Contracted a wicked viral and bacterial infection in collaboration with hay fever as the early summer pollen count was astronomical in northern forests. Long haul flights via the Middle East across the Atlantic rather than across the Pacific was much better for me. What a contrast your photos make with the verdant, lake filled photos of northern Ontario. The world is a wonderfully varied place. Glad Bruce is with you. Graham and our house were still standing on my return. Many ladies brought him casseroles as he doesn’t cook. How funny and nice!

Traveler HI Arja, more great photos, stunning scenery. I know what you mean about the rock wallabies, I've seen them bound effortlessly up and down gorges in the Flinders Ranges. (up and down.....sounds like my golf)...You're having the trip of a lifetime, there is so much to see in Australia, many diverse places to visit. We're all going well here and we think of you every Sunday, particularly at 'snake' time....cheers, Bev
