    Arizona here we come!!

    March 8, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 4 °C

We made it through Siskiyou pass with no problem...the roads were clear and dry. Now full steam ahead down California. We'll see how far we get today.

  • Back on I-5

March 9, 2023 in the United States

Back on the road again. Planning to make it to Barstow CA tonight. We ended up driving late last night till 10 pm past Sacramento, mainly because we couldn't find a place to stay before that. The rest stops were either overflowing with trucks or closed, and the CA Walmarts are not RV friendly, so we ended up parking for the night in an empty parking lot next to Walmart in Elk Grove. It was very quiet and close to Starbucks...win win. Now we are enjoying the sights along I-5. You know it's pretty boring when I take pictures of exit signs. ..but they are pretty important ones going to my ole birth place of Stockton. Darn it, I just missed a photo of the San Joaquin Hospital where I was born. On the lookout for more exciting sights!!!
Looks like we made it out of Medford just in time!! Made it to Barstow koa. Tell you about the nightmare tomorrow. All is well now.

  • Never driving RV at night again!!

    March 10, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

(Warning - Negative Nelly post). We were planning to get an early start so we wouldn't have to drive at night again. We want to make it all the way to Goodyear, AZ. We'll see how it goes!!
So much for an early start...found a nail in the tire of our car...we are now getting it fixed by Marvin (slow as) Molasses at a bootleg tire shop in the middle of the desert....they had a legit looking website but he can't even find the tool he needs .....Can't make this stuff up! Gonna be another late night!! I would be depressed every day if I had to live in this desolate place. We are still not over last night's disaster: we missed the turn to the Koa, then gps led us astray to a turn-around place, which ended up being a dead end. We had to unhook the car after many attempts, the car was dead as it is every day after a drive, had to jump it, then go back and find the Koa. Of course, everything is harder in the dark . Sorry, I'm such a Debbie Downer, but this is no fun!!Read more

  • We made it!!

    March 11, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

We did make it to our final destination last night! Cotton Lane RV Resort in Goodyear, AZ close to Phoenix and in the middle of the 10 stadium where the spring training games will be.
It will be great to stay put in one place and not have to get up and go! We do have our first Dodger game today. Let the fun times begin!!
Update on Marvin Molasses: he put a patch on the nail hole in our tire because he couldn't find the tool to plug the hole like a normal person would do. He charged $25 for an hour and a half labor that Les Shwabb does for free in ten minutes, which would've been fine if it worked, since we were way out in the desert, but....alas, it did not...the tire was flat by the end of the day. Randy had to put on the spare so we can take the tire to Les Shwabb.
    Stay tuned for tomorrow's adventures!!

  • Ready for guests!!

    March 13, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 13 °C

We are ready for our baseball loving guests! We pick Justin and Tanner up from the airport at 9 am, drive straight to the stadium since they open the parking lot at 10, have a tailgate lunch while we wait for gates to open at 11:30 , try to get autographs before the game starts at 1 at Camelback Ranch. We have great seats just to the right of home plate where we can see inside the Dodger dugout. Many pictures to come!! Right after that game we drive to Phoenix to the Diamondback Stadium to watch the U.S. TEAM play in the World Baseball Classic tournament at 7. We lucked out that they have a game in Phoenix. Not so lucky that all the best players of every team are playing at WBC instead of Spring Training games. U.S. team won the last tourny in 2017. They skipped one in 2021 for covid. Dominican Republic won the previous one in 2013, Japan won in 2009. Those 3 same teams are favored to battle it out this year too. They each are predicted to win their pool of 4 teams . U.S. will play Canada, Columbia, and Mexico. Today they play Canada. Should be a great game!!Read more

  • Two more games

    March 14, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 16 °C

Today we go to two more games but at different parks. At Peoria Sports Complex we watch the Royals and Mariners at 1, then at 6 we watch the Rockies and Cubs at the Sloan Stadium, for you guys that are in the know. Before we go watch baseball, we will have time to have fun swimming and playing pickle ball at the RV resort. Another fun day!!
We ended up missing the second game because on the way there we were in an accident. A young girl ran the yellow light from the left turn lane and we hit her passenger back door as we entered the intersection when our light turned green. Both airbags went off. Thankfully no one was badly hurt . The police were there right away but by the time that was all done, the body shop was closed, tow truck was 2 hours away, Entreprise rental car was closed, so we just went back 3 miles to the RV and crashed for the night, just glad we weren't in the hospital.

  • It rains in the desert

    March 15, 2023 in the United States ⋅ 🌧 15 °C

First order of the day: we have to get a rental car. Entreprise picked Randy up at the Rv. When he came back with the car, we took the wrecked car to the body shop and then went on to Scottsdale (past Phoenix) to the Odysea acquarium at the Arizona Boardwalk in Talking Stick. It was the perfect day for an indoor activity. It rained most of the day, but they still didn't cancel the 6 pm Dodger game until right before, after we had already driven back to the Rv and to Camelback Stadium.. Fortunately, that was just enough time to get tickets and drive back to Phoenix to the Diamondback Stadium for the World Baseball Classic game of USA vs. Columbia, which they won 3 to 2. Now USA goes to the Quarterfinals in Miami... and hopefully all the way to Tokyo for the final. It was a great game, huge stadium full of fans, but we missed Kershaw pitching.Read more

  • Tired of baseball games yet????

    March 16, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 13 °C

Today, we all slept in...all the driving, crashing, sitting, and cheering are catching up with us. At 1 we go back to Scottsdale to Salt River Fields to watch the Colorado Rockies vs. San Diego Padres. At 6 we go to Camelback Ranch to see the Dodgers play the Rangers. Get ready for another baseball day!!!Read more

  • Last day with the boys

    March 17, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 14 °C

Justin and Tanner are going back home today.....but that won't stop us from watching more games....we have 3 left: one Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. It's been so wonderful having them here, sharing in their excitement and baseball knowledge, and just loving being with them!! We've had a fabulous time!! Oh yea, it's St. Patrick's Day!! We are surrounded by green!!! Even the Padres are wearing green hats! The RV Resort had a golf cart parade all decorated for St. Paddy...no pictures, but you can just imagine it!!Read more

Tonight we're going to go spend the evening with some real snowbirds from back home in Oregon. They spend the winter in Arizona playing pickle ball and golf. Of course, that will be after we go to a Dodger game!!Read more

  • Last game

    March 19, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Today is the last game. We still ended up seeing 10 games even though one was rained out and one was right after the accident, because we ended up adding the two USA team games. Tips for next time: two games every day is alot, even though they are at 1 and 6. There is alot of travel time, especially with traffic, in between stadiums spread out all around the Phoenix area. It doesn't allow much time for dinner had lots of sandwiches on the go. The food at the games is not gluten free or good for my stomach , and although you are sitting for hours, it is still tiring somehow. They are very strict about not taking in any food, only an unopened water bottle each in a clear bag.Get preferred parking on Seatgeek at Camelback for $1 ($6 with fees). The best chance you have to get autographs and see the players up close is to go watch them practice in the fields around the stadiums before their game for the day at either 9-1130 or 2-430 which we couldnt do when we had 2 games. We only got to go to 3 of the 10 stadiums (we missed Sloan Park), plus the Diamondbacks' stadium, because our main goal was to see all the Dodger games during our week here. Our second week here is all about art and nature. Stay tuned for more adventures to come!!Read more

  • Reading in the Rain

    March 21, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

It's supposed to rain all day today, so we decided to go to Sedona tomorrow . I finally get to read my book and relax. We settled with the insurance on our car, so now we can start shopping for another one. We plan to start the drive home on Friday and arrive by Monday, March 27. As always, it will be good to be home.Read more

  • Sedona

    March 22, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 11 °C

Day trip to Sedona...a 2 hour drive to see the beautiful scenery and experience the vortex energy during the breaks in the rain. It did stop raining once we got to Sedona, but alot of the roads and trails were closed because of flooding . We missed out on the Montezuma National Monument, the Cathedral Rock trail and vortex, the Airport Mesa trail and Bell Rock. We did get to see the Church of the Holy Cross built in the rock by Frank Lloyd Wright, the Boynton Canyon trail and Uptown Sedona. That trail was advertized as a 30 min hike for kids, it ended up being 2 and a half hours and we didnt even make it to the end...I think we should've turned right to Vista instead of left to Canyon. The Sedona colored mountains are beautiful!Read more

  • Getting ready to go!!

    March 23, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

It's time to pack everything up so we can leave tomorrow and start the drive back home!

  • Now drive, drive

March 24, 2023 in the United States

Time to leave Arizona and head back to Oregon...I miss mountains and trees!! Long day of uneventful driving except for lots of wind. We made it to Tehapachi , just about to Bakersfield on 40 West. We are staying at a sad little RV Park called Mountain Valley. It is so cold here. It's going to get to 27 degrees. We are right by an airport full of small airplanes that take gliders up in the sky. Tomorrow they are taking up 44 people. Would be fun to watch, but we will be driving on, hopefully to Sacramento, so we can make it home the next day. I slept in the back most of the day while poor Randy drove, trying to get rid of this cold and congestion! Hope I can sleep tonight!Read more

  • Too Long

    March 25, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ -3 °C

500 miles and 10 hours of driving is too long. Today, we'll shoot for 6-8 hours. It will be an easier drive to get back on I-5 after Bakersfield and out of this windy area. So ready to be home!!
I guess we're going up on 99 because Randy gets bored on I-5 and gas is cheaper. We got to see a plane pull a glider up...might be a fun thing to do!!
There is a snow storm coming Monday morning at Mt Shasta with 100% chance of 12-16" of snow by Monday night and 7-11" more on Tuesday night on I-5. That's why we are trying to make it home by Sunday night.
