    Day 7: To Zubiri - The Dragon Has Been Tamed!

    I left Bizkarreta about seven this morning. I'm now at the highway about 4 km before Zubiri. I'm surprised that the food truck that is often here and open looks almost abandoned with graffiti covering it and trash laying all around. That's too bad because I was sure looking forward to a cold drink. Luckily, I have a can of tea in my backpack. So I took a rest here anyway.

    So far today has been a great walk. It is overcast and about 65° so perfect walking weather.

    The dragons back seems to have been tamed! Sylvia, you would love walking it now. There are a few rough places that I will show in the photos, but for the most part, it has been smooth, and all of the dragons scales have been dumped over the side of the pathway.

    They're building a huge new something right at the entrance to the bridge. I walked down to the water, took my shoes and socks off and soaked my feet in the cold river. That felt so good!

    The wonderful Asador is no longer here. I really was looking forward to rotisserie But now it's a tossup between eating at El Palo or finding something else in town.

    The supermarket is all locked up, so I'm not sure if it is still in commission or not. If I can make it to Zabaldika tomorrow, I know that they serve dinner and breakfast so I should be OK until I get to Pamplona as far as groceries go. Gronze says it's only 11 to 12 km.

    There's a lot of new construction going on in town. Not just the new building at the end of the bridge. It's very noisy here right now. The streets are empty, so I'm gonna take a photo. I'll take photos of El Palo when I get in there. They open at 1:00 PM

    I took a walk over near bar Valentino, and there is a butcher shop there that has a little grocery store with some small size items for pilgrims. I bought a tiny little loaf of bread, some pate and an orange for tomorrow. I also found little packets of butter which I needed and little packets of olive oil which I will actually use for my skin. It's a pretty nice little place. They have things like pasta and sauce, cheese, yogurt, fruit, all the things that a pilgrim might need.

    There is also a dispenser here in town that I've never seen before that pretty much has everything a pilgrim might need. I'll post a photo. Looks like it will have to be on a different footprint because I've hit my limit of 40 photos.    Læs mere
