• Silver Muse Day 6 - Juneau

    After a slightly rough night at sea, we moored in Juneau. The only US state capitol that borders another country (Canada). On our way to a whale watching cruise we passed the governor’s mansion and guess what, you can’t see Russia. Oh well…. We proceeded to board a private cruise built to hold over 100 but we only had 25 in the group. Talk about exclusive. Words cannot express how gorgeous the weather and scenery was. Not one drop of rain, not cold and beautifully sunny. 15 minutes into the ride we spotted a mother humpback whale with her calf. The calf kept surfacing and then proceed to breach 4 or 5 times and we captured 3 on our cell phone. A breach takes so many calories that adult whales tend to conserve their energy but babies just like to play! After the day cruise we took the Goldbelt tram 1800 feet through the rain forest to the mountain house. The Juneau tram is one of the most vertical tramways in the world.
