Pour cet après-midi, changement total d’ambiance : j’ai quitté Hong Kong pour rejoindre Macao, ce mélange improbable entre héritage portugais et Las Vegas asiatique.
Autant dire que mes yeux n’ont pas eu le temps de s’ennuyer.
Première étape : les Ruines de São Paulo, symbole de Macao. C’est tout ce qu’il reste d’une gigantesque église du XVIe siècle construite par les jésuites : juste une façade… mais quelle façade !
Ensuite, j’ai traversé la ville jusqu’au Grand Lisboa, cet hôtel-casino doré en forme de fleur disco géante. Sur la route, je suis aussi tombé sur un autre hôtel qui proposait un spectacle de jets d’eau… parce qu’à Macao, tout doit briller, bouger, danser, clignoter.
Le soir, j’ai terminé au Venetian, le casino inspiré de Venise, avec canaux intérieurs, gondoles et plafond peint version “ciel éternel”.
En rentrant, j’ai longé toute une collection de casinos : The Parisian avec sa mini Tour Eiffel ✨, Studio City avec son architecture futuriste, et d’autres temples de lumières et de machines à sous.
For this afternoon, I swapped Hong Kong’s skyline for Macao, a unique blend of Portuguese heritage and Asian Las Vegas.
Let’s just say my eyes had quite a workout.
My first stop was the iconic Ruins of St. Paul’s.
All that remains of the massive 16th century church is the front façade, but what a façade!
Next came the Grand Lisboa, a golden, shiny, totally over-the-top casino shaped like a giant disco flower.
I also passed another hotel hosting a dancing water show, because in Macao: more lights = more fun.
In the evening, I explored The Venetian, complete with indoor canals, gondolas, and a perfectly painted blue sky ceiling.
On the way back I walked past a lineup of illuminated giants: The Parisian with its sparkling Eiffel Tower, Studio City looking like a sci-fi movie set, and a parade of glowing casinos.Read more
