    Madrid

    Today we set off from hotel and caught the train to Sol central Madrid, we booked a walking tour that ended with extensive tour of the royal palace.It is the largest palace in Europe three times the size of palace of Versailles
    We then had lunch, unfortunately it started raining and we got soaked walking to the Catedral de Santa Maria Real de la Amundena
    We then walked to the Museo del Prado , it is massive and we were overwhelmed with all the famous paintings
    My feet are sore and swollen from the flight and all our walking today we caught the train back to Chamartin where tonight we meet up with others on our Mediterranean flavours tour    もっと詳しく

    Peniscola

    Today we are travelling to Barcelona we stopped at the beautiful city Peniscola which is on the Mediterranean coast, I was very tempted to go for a swim instead Tom and I walked up the the castle it was more of a fortress where Pope Luna live and he only pope in history not to live in the Vatican City

    Barcelona

    Tonight we arrived in Barcelona unfortunately it’s still raining, we checked into our hotel Catalonia Sagrada Familia Hotel
    After a short rest and shower we went out to dinner and a Flaminco show which was totally amazing

    Wow wow wow is the only way to describe inside this beautiful church designed by Gaudi the famous architect, who was run over by a tram at the age of 74

    We stopped in this lovely French town on the coast where i had a swim it dropped down steep so it made it hard to exit without falling over

    Monaco and Monte Carlo

    Last evening we went to Monaco and to the casino in Monte Carlo
    The drive to Monaco along the cote azure coast was steep and winding roads with amazing views over the ocean with huge super yachts heading towards the Monte Carlo marina
    We had a lovely meal in Monaco then went to the casino it was amazing seeing all the cars and people with so much wealth
    It cost’€18 to enter then we received €10 voucher to use in the casino, I put our voucher into a police machine and pressed buttons and I won €117 so was very happy

    Cinque Terre

    Yesterday we left Nice and travelled over mountains through tunnels to Genoa to Levanto we caught the train to Monterosso
    Tom and I walked one and half kilometres on the cinque Terre walk up narrow steep steps we only had two hours before we had to meet up with the rest of the group so we turned back I spotted a little rocky beach so I scrambled over rocks and then stripped down to bra and my shorts and went into the beautiful clear water I was swimming along enjoying the cool water when my hand touched a herd lump it was a large white jellyfish then when I looked there were lots more , so I quickly swam back to shore and scrambled back over rocks and got dressed I didn’t have a towel but it was sunny so I dried out
    The trains went on strike so we caught a boat to pot Venere which was beautiful Tom and I bought a gelato and sat down by the beach
    We caught another boat to La Spezia where our hotel was, it was a steep walk up to a lift that took us up to the hotel level
    La Spezia is a beautiful place the hotel was very luxurious lovely large fluffy towels
    We walked to a small restaurant and had pasta Tom had seafood and I had carbonara both were nice then another gelato
    Our breakfast this morning was delicious so many pastries was hard to choose which ones to try

    Verona

    We arrived in Verona a beautiful city were we did a walking tour, Verona has a very fast moving river called the Adige it runs 410 kms through southern Italy and is the second largest river after the Po
    We walked over the Ponte Pietra bridge, the houses have lovely window boxes of flowers and the streets are lined with Linden trees it’s a very green city
    We walked passed Romeo house then to the balcony of Giulietta (the balcony was added after when it was realised the play by Shakespeare had a balcony) I had photo of me with the Giulietta statue.
    We saw Dante statue, then walked to the arena which is older than the colosseum in Rome. This arena hosts operas and concerts all year round. All the famous Italian opera singers have performed here Pavarotti Bocellii it holds 13,500 thousand people and is the largest open air theatre.
    The tour ended there so we went and had a lovely fruit salad and aperil spritzer .
    We then drove to a beautiful hotel called Poppy’s outside of Venice.
    After a quick shower and change we went to Venice by night we drove over the liberty bridge and caught a boat to St Marc’s square , then walked to a lovely restaurant and had a lovely three course meal I had the fish the dessert was a delicious tiramisu

    Venice by night

    Venice by night was so pretty, we had a beautiful three course dinner, I had fish and dessert was a delicious tiramisu
    We then walked around the city taking in all the beautiful Basilica of St Mark built with beautiful mosaics, bought from Turkey.

    Venice by day

    This morning we took the bus back to Venice over the liberty bridge to the boat and back to St Marks square, there were thousands of tourists, last night wasn’t as crowded, we went to a Murano glass blowing place it was incredible watching him make a glass horse.
    I bought some Murano bracelets for Christmas gifts, we looked at all the other amazing pieces I like a glass aquarium but it was over two thousand euros!!!
    We wandered around it was hot so we bought a cherry gelato and sat in a small park and ate it the seagulls are huge and they were trying to share our gelato we also had a refreshing limoncello spritzer .
    In the afternoon we took a boat to one of the 118 islands that make up Venice called Burano a 50 minute boat ride from st marks square, it’s a lot less crowded and very colourful houses we were very hot so bought some water and tried the cannoli I also bought some beautiful linen scarves.    もっと詳しく

    Today we are travelling to Rome a 600 km journey but we will break it by stopping in Assisi. Assisi is a hill town in central Italy’s Umbria region. It was the birthplace of St. Francis (1181–1226), one of Italy’s patron saints. The Basilica of St. Francis is a massive, 2-level church, consecrated in 1253.     Roma

    Today we had a early start7.45 as we had a tour booked for the Vatican , it was already quite warm we met our guide and queued up with hundreds of others,31 thousand people come every day,
    I found the tour tiring and all though I enjoyed revisiting the Vatican the crowds and heat were at times quite unpleasant
    The bus brought us back to the hotel (BV Oly Hotel) little way from the city centre , I hadn’t had breakfast or lunch so went for lunch at cafe down the road it was delicious I then walked back to our room Tom was still asleep so I had a relaxing bath .
    At 4.30 we were on the move a drive around Rome with a stop at the Trevi fountain were we threw a coin into the fountain
    We then had a cherry gelato I’m enjoying the gelatos and back to bus for final stop our farewell dinner at a beautiful outdoor setting with lights in the trees, we were serenaded by pianist and opera singer while we ate a delicious Italian food
    Then home and goodbyes to our driver Miguel Angel and our tour director Jorge he was outstanding and I enjoyed his informative talks on the bus and on our walking tours    もっと詳しく

    Farewell dinner

    We arrived around 7pm for our farewell dinner in a beautiful outdoor restaurant with white tablecloth and lights in the trees
    Unfortunately not all our tour group came but the ones that did enjoyed the wine food and music from Italian pianist and opera singer
    We started with plain pizza and cheeses salami’s tomato zucchini and lettuce
    Then a pasta parmigiana bread then a chocolate mousse dessert

    Naples

    We arrived in Naples from Rome and walked to our apartment the Famalu Apartments 6 minute walk from the train station. It was steamy hot🥵we had a shower then set off for our catacomb Di San Gennaro , as it was hot we decided to catch a taxi it was quite a way from where we are staying so we arrived in plenty of time and instead of the 5pm tour we did the 4.30 tour it was amazing
    People from Naples used this underground catacombs as a bomb-shelter during World War Two
    We then wandered around backstreets of Naples is a chaotic city full of scooters, bikes all going flat out and tooting
    We ended up in a little family owned pizzeria where we were the only tourists everyone else were locals, and the pizza and panna cotta I had was delicious even better than delicious Tom enjoyed his fish and tiramisu
