• Simulator Sunday

    August 17, 2025 in Iceland ⋅ ☁️ 14 °C

This morning I was due to do a helicopter flight with 2 landings at glacier and geysers ,but the weather wasn't suitable and the flight was cancelled.
As I had to check out of my hotel and go to the one for the start of the Greenland cruise, I took a taxi to the Centre hotels plaza ,in the centre of Reykjavik.
I checked in with the Greenland cruise tour guide at 2pm and got my room in this hotel
I decided to walk to the Fly over Iceland Experience ,about 20mins,distance , which is a simulation Experience as though flying in a helicopter.( as an alternative to the real thing )
The cinema has seats that you get strapped into and the Experience was amazingly realistic.- swooping over mountains into valleys close up to waterfalls .I wasn't allowed to take photos but to be honest with feet dangling in mid air and sudden changes in the images, I found myself gripping the seat .
After this, I took a taxi to the Harper building ,which is the Concert venue in Reykjavik. It is a striking glass fronted building and equally striking on the inside.
In here Id missed the opportunity for a tour and to here a classic music rehearsal, which had happened in the morning.
However, I enjoyed the incredibly real volcano experience. ..which was another simulator
I walked back to my hotel and was pleased to realise I'd got my bearings in Reykjavik centre. I also saw a guy dressed as a troll .There's definitely a lot of folklore tales surrounding Trolls and elves ,that people definitely believe in
One tale is of machinery which stopped working, when building a road and wouldn't start again until a particular person who can intervene with the elves came to the rescue..This has happened more than once
After a lovely meal in a restaurant near my hotel, where Id eaten few days earlier, I settled to sleep as we have to be ready to go ,at 4am. !
