• Disappointing Tromso

    September 2, 2025 in Norway ⋅ ☁️ 17 °C

It rapidly became apparent that Tromso was a real mistake...its deserted!
I think I've definitely arrived at the wrong time of year
It is known as the gateway to the Artic. It's where the Hurtigruten and other ships pull in on cruises.
Snow bound experiences are possible as is seeing whales and the Northern lights. . .but I saw None of it ! Instead I got something on my phone that told me the Northern lights might be seen in Manchester tonight!...which didn't help ! 🤬
I had a lazy morning and then ventured out to see the Artic Cathedral and go up in the Cablecar 🚡 ... More disappointment, they were on another of the islands that makes up Tromso...fed up....got a taxi and arrived at the Cable car which is in the middle of a lot of houses 🏘
The view at the top was actually worth the effort...and an extensive area at the top for those inclined to walk around
A viewpoint is being built as well
I enjoyed a cup of tea in the Cafe at the top, before coming down and walking to the Artic Cathedral, arriving 10mins before it shut.
I then meandered the 45min walk back to my accommodation via the 7.11shop for food .
As the hotel offers free cups of tea, I spent the evening in the reception area ,drinking lots of brews . Not the most amazing day but enjoyable after all
