• Milan Cathedral and Lake Como

    January 8 in Italy ⋅ ☀️ 5 °C

The trip to lake como and lugano ,that i pre booked ,was cancelled ,so I waited to arrive in Milan and see how I felt
There were tickets available for the Cathedral including going on the roof ,so I decided to start my day with this and take things from there
The Cathedral is stunning ,incredible detail in the masonary. It reminds me of the Sagrade Familia in Barcelona, due to the extensive detail. The view from the roof was great ,though I was unable to go on the final level as it was blocked off ..this was disappointing ...as i think id have got some great city view photos.
Inside the cathedral was also amazing.....stunning stained glass windows..The organ was impressive
When I came out of the cathedral it was only early afternoon and i decided rather than.go on the hop on hop off bus ,i would try and go to Lake Como under my own steam
It was really easy....a taxi from the cathedral to the Cardona train station ,a ticket from the ticket office ,for the2.15pm train ,which went straight to lake como in 1hr and the lake was right outside the station
I was able to buy a ticket for the 4pm. Cruise and used the interim half hour to get a cup of tea and a jam tart from a local cafe
The cruise was really enjoyable and took about an hour....I could have got off at the stops and looked around ,but chose not to
I suffered the cold to get good photos outside rather than through the windows, from inside
An hour later ,I was back on the train to Milan .If there had been more daylight left Id have gone on the Fenicular railway, but it was sunset ,during the cruise
I surmise that Como consists of narrow streets of traditional houses, from what I could see
The village has several waterfront restaurants which would be lovely in summer for a meal outside
Returning to Milan ,i jumped in a taxi back to my hotel and then walked to the restaurant I'd eaten at last night
Overall today, turned out better than I expected
