• Zermatt ,after all

    January 10 in Switzerland ⋅ 🌫 -6 °C

As I couldn' t get a refund on my hotel in Zermatt ,I decided i should continue my journey...
The journey from St Moritz to Zermatt is covered by another special train, the Glacier Express.
Once again ,it was sold out .To follow the route on thr regional train ,would involve 4 changes which were all documented ,if only you're able to work out the German that things like the arrival and departure platforms are....but its all laid out ...no dashing to an electronic depatures board ...
However ,there are some stops which are request stops and i didnt know if any of my stops were request stops or where on the train ,the request button is located 🤣....so anything could happen ..The guard on thr train didnt speak English so that didnt clarify things
Arriving at my 1st proposed change was an unmanned chalet in the middle of nowhere and its Minus 16 degrees . .no way was i getting off
I stayed on to Chur ,a main station and went to the ticket office which was hidden away in a corner of the station
There waz no fuss changing the ticket for th next one on the same route. However ,it was likely these ststions where i should change ,may also be unmanned
I opted to change altogether and go via Zurich and Visp ....which are 2 main stations
I arrived in Zermatt about 3pm...it is utterly picturesque.....and i am delighted now not to have missed it..
My hotel ,is a true chalet and the street is full of chalets .Even Macdonalds is in a chalet.😅
I had a short wander along the street which was snow free and a machine comes along to sweep the slush.
Dodging all the people carrying ski equipment was a new experience and there was soo much equipment on.the train
Far more skiing here than St Moritz
Having arrived at my hotel which is directly opposite the station ,I spent some time in my room as i was too late to get the railway that goes to a viewpoint of the Matterhorn, plus it was cloudy today
I ventured out again for food...The nearest restaurant ,despite being empty when i arrived ,ushered me to sit at the bar where i could have my meal ...Initially I sat there ,the stool was high ,so not relaxing and the bar even higher. I was not best pleased and when I saw the prices ,i thought i am.not paying these prices to sit perched at a bar
On arrival the manager had taken my coat ,so I asked for it back and said I 'd leave it thanks .I had a lovely meal further down the road ,having wandered into a few shops
