    Foncebadôn - Albergue Monte Irago

    A 6am morning alarm so we could get started at a decent hour. It was dark for the first hour and we could see pilgrims taking the wrong path by mistake. It's easy to do if they can't read Spanish, etc. We managed to have a first breakfast and a second breakfast today. María didn't want to take off her shoes at the halfway point but I finally talked her into it. We had a bit of uphill but it was completely doable. And we did it. The first albergue we came to was full but the second one had room for the 4 of us. We get bed, dinner, and breakfast for 18.50€ and they have vegetarian options too. It's supposed to be a communal meal so I'm looking forward to it. Right now it's rest and relaxation for Mia and I.

    Una alarma de la mañana a las 6 am para que podamos comenzar a una hora decente. Estaba oscuro durante la primera hora y pudimos ver a los peregrinos tomar el camino equivocado por error. Es fácil de hacer si no pueden leer español, etc. Hoy pudimos tomar un primer desayuno y un segundo desayuno. María no quería quitarse los zapatos a mitad de camino, pero finalmente la convencí. Tuvimos un poco de cuesta arriba pero fue completamente factible. Y lo hicimos. El primer albergue al que llegamos estaba lleno, pero el segundo tenía espacio para nosotras 4.     Day 28

    Astorga - Albergue Servías de María

    A shorter walk today to reach Astorga, only 14.4 miles. Mia was literally dancing along without her backpack. María and Mia walk ahead with Isabel and I at the back. We ran into Anne and Lynn as we crested the final hill and saw the Cathedral of Astorga calling our name. Mia was very happy to see them again after a day apart. We're staying together in a room with 3 bunks. Today's agenda includes the chocolate museum, Gaudí palace, and Cathedral. We'll all meet back up here at 8pm to make dinner together.

    Una caminata más corta hoy para llegar a Astorga, solo 23.2 km. Mia estaba literalmente bailando sin su mochila. María y Mia caminan adelante con Isabel y yo atrás. Nos encontramos con Anne y Lynn cuando llegamos a la cima de la colina final y vimos la Catedral de Astorga gritando nuestro nombre. Mia estaba muy feliz de verlas nuevamente después de un día separadas. Nos quedaremos juntos en una habitación con 3 literas.     San Martin del Camino - Casa Verde Albg.

    My first alarm went off at 6am and I shut it off and tried to sleep until the 6:30am. I turned on the lights and started packing the bag I send ahead. I walked to the albergue and dropped it off while everyone else was getting ready. Today was the first day of the Camino for Isabel and Maria and they both did really well. We took the non-scenic route that followed the highway as there were more towns along the way to use a bathroom. Mia is still not feeling well, she has the head cold and tummy bug now. We arrived at our albergue and NO ONE is here. We've been sitting in the kitchen area for 40 minutes waiting. Another 20 minutes and we going to settle in and hope for the best. We have a reservation for 3 beds so guess who is sleeping with whom.

    Mi primera alarma sonó a las 6 a.m. y la apagué e intenté dormir hasta las 6:30 a.m. Encendí las luces y comencé a empacar la bolsa que envío por delante. Caminé hasta el albergue y lo dejé mientras todas las demás se preparaban. Hoy fue el primer día del Camino para Isabel y María, y a ambas les fue muy bien. Tomamos la ruta no escénica que siguió a la carretera ya que había más ciudades en el camino para usar un baño. Mia todavía no se siente bien, ahora tiene la gripa de cabeza y la panza. Llegamos a nuestro albergue y NADIE está aquí. Llevamos 40 minutos sentadas en el área de la cocina esperando. Otros 20 minutos y nos instalaremos y esperamos lo mejor.     Exploring León - María and Isabel Arrive

    I had to wake up super early this morning and walk down to the train station to meet Maria and Isabel. Last night Mia had wanted to go with me. At 4am, it was a different story. I found them without incident and we walked back to the piso. We all went to sleep for a little while. When we got up, I took them to get their pilgrim passports and have breakfast. Mia stayed in the room the whole time and enjoyed the peace. There was a medieval festival going on as well as the morcilla festival. We repacked their backpacks and prepared everyone for tomorrow's adventure.

    Tuve que levantarme muy temprano esta mañana y caminar hacia la estación de tren para encontrarme con María e Isabel. Anoche Mia había querido ir conmigo. A las 4 de la mañana, era una historia diferente. Las encontré sin incidentes y caminamos de regreso al piso. Todas nos fuimos a dormir un rato. Cuando nos levantamos, las llevé a buscar sus pasaportes de peregrino y desayunamos. Mia permaneció en la habitación todo el tiempo y disfrutó de la paz.     León - Plaza Mayor Apartamentos

    A nice, "easy" day of 12 miles today into León. We're feeling great and very excited about Maria and Isabel's arrival tomorrow. They've been flying from Mexico City to Madrid as we slept and walked. Our apartment is right here on the Plaza Mayor. We're super excited about exploring the city tonight and tomorrow. We picked up new credentials at the albergue on the way into town.

    Mansilla de las Mulas - El Jardin

    16.7 miles today so we got an early start at 7am. There were only two towns on our way so slim pickings for breaks. I'm still so thankful for the people who had the foresight to plant a row of trees for miles and miles and miles. Their shade is greatly appreciated. Mia is suffering from a head cold so she's walking against her wishes. I offered to call her a taxi and she said she's not a cheater. We did stop and buy some candies in the last town to give us that last boost we needed.

    Bercianos del Real Camino - La Perala

    5.9 miles on those damn bikes and then we dropped them off in an albergue in Terradillos de los Templarios. From there on, we were back on our feet and happy to be doing so. 14.5 miles to reach a relatively new albergue. We have a lovely room with 5 beds and a private bathroom. Mia is feeling under the weather so we skipped the pilgrim meal again. I walked into town to get some fruit and snacks for us to munch on. That sun is brutal! I've got sunburns and funky tan lines all over my body.

    Calzadilla de la Cueza - Municipal Alber

    31.7 miles on bike-We're ready to give up the life of a cyclist for good. We're turning them in a day early because we're hurting. Today was grin and bear it because there was no other option. We finally caught up with several friends so that was awesome. There is another 11yo pilgrim boy here but we don't know his story yet.

    Itero de la Vega - Hostel Puente Fitero

    The silent alarm went off at 6:30am but I didn't rouse anyone until 7am. We had breakfast in the hostel and then headed off to get our bikes at 9am. If I could go back in time, I would have hailed a damn taxi but I didn't. We're doing every step of this Camino under our own power unless we suffer some horrific unforseen accident. Today was hell. My Nether regions are screaming loud for all to hear and no amount of wine has drowned out their cries (I tried at dinner). We didn't meet our goal of Boadillo which is a real bummer because I wanted to catch up with our friend Tom who stayed there tonight. We did run into two friends that we met our first night in SJPP. We had a hill from hell finish us off this afternoon after we had already biked 24 miles. It was brutal, tears were shed, and I never want to do that again. We're in a quiet room with 4 individual beds. Mia is tucked in beside me because she had the hardest day and deserves to sleep with her mama.

    La alarma silenciosa sonó a las 6:30 a.m. pero no desperté a nadie hasta las 7 a.m. Desayunamos en el hostal y luego salimos a buscar nuestras bicicletas a las 9 am. Si pudiera retroceder en el tiempo, habría tomado un maldito taxi pero no lo hice. Estamos haciendo cada paso de este Camino bajo nuestro propio poder a menos que suframos un horrible accidente imprevisto. Hoy fue el infierno. Mis regiones abisales están gritando fuerte para que todos lo escuchen y ninguna cantidad de vino ha ahogado sus gritos (lo intenté en la cena). No alcanzamos nuestro objetivo de Boadillo, que es un verdadero lástima porque quería alcanzar a nuestro amigo Tom que se quedó allí esta noche. Nos encontramos con dos amigos que conocimos nuestra primera noche en SJPP. Tuvimos una maldita colina que nos terminó esta tarde después de que ya habíamos andado en bicicleta 24 millas. Fue brutal, se derramaron lágrimas y nunca quiero volver a hacerlo. Ahora estamos en una habitación tranquila con 4 camas individuales. Mia está acostada a mi lado porque tuvo el día más difícil y merece dormirse al lado su mamá.    Read more

    Burgos - Hostal Catedral Burgos

    A beautiful sunrise to send us off this morning. It was a short walk into Burgos and we found the parrocial albergue. That ended in a disaster and Mia in tears. We hopped online and found a private room for the four of us. We're resting up and then going to explore Burgos!!
