Saturday 30 May, Caernarfon still

Starting to feel a little more rested and are looking more closely at the weather patterns. A bit of a blow coming through tomorrow but potentially Monday or Tuesday will be good for a half day jaunt up to Holyhead, over night there and then a day sail across to the River Liffey and in to Dublin.

Nigel and Pippa, who we met on the train ride, came to visit and look at WM.
Tea and chat in cockpit then they departed for their 4 hour drive (motorhome and jeep, towing their RIB) home.

Made it to Morrisons, just along from Doc Fictoria, loaded victuals and came back for a late breakfast/lunch fry up and a quiet afternoon.
Sorted out genoa furler – wanted a few extra turns on the drum when genoa stowed.

Decided to look at our Wallas Safeflame 95D diesel hob, which has decided to give up working. We have a portable induction hob and a picnic gas stove so we won’t go hungry.

It was fitted in 2009 and it has always been a bit temperamental. Also it is a bit like ‘Trigger’s broom;’ every part has been replaced and the support advice from Wallas in Finland has been not that good. The UK company helped with some advice but to send it back to them for full surgery would be astronomically expensive. (I had it priced up some years ago and the cost was eye-watering.)

I think the ‘brain’ has packed up but to confirm means replacing it at a cost of over £300 (incl VAT and postage) and of course they won’t take it back if it has been used in any way. So, we now need to compare the cost of throwing good money against bad, 17 year old, well used kit, or invest in an invertor to run the induction hob, air fryer, microwave, kettle (one at a time of course.) Decisions decisions. I will not put the thing back together and put the fuse. Hey ho, at least no gas bottles onboard in the last 17 years.

So, tools all away, hob buttoned up and saloon/galley operational again. Just out of shear embuggeranceness, I flashed up the diesel hob one more time and the damned thing only worked!!!! I have no idea. I must have tightened something, tweaked something, kicked the proverbial out of something. We are leaving it running for a while just to see if it cr4ps out again. Grrrr!!Read more
