A Protracted Stay in Holyhead

Tuesday 2 June, Holyhead V15 Day 2.
Blowing a hooley with little indication of it letting up yet. Water Taxi ashore in the evening for a few sherbets in the ‘Boathouse’ Hotel. Managed to get away and miss paying a tab. Grovelling phone apology, we will go back.

Wednesday 3 June, Holyhead V15 Day 3

We were hoping to head across to Dublin today as it was supposed to be nice. Checked weather last night and it is blowing up, and it is. Force 9 gusts here, Force 8 steady on the mooring. Just paid for Wednesday and Thursday night on the mooring. We will just stay until the weather improves. Currently thinking we may head to Howth (north of Dublin) rather than Poolbeg in the city. We understand there is a good, regular train connection with the city centre, and it puts us a couple of hours further in the right direction when we head off again.

Thursday 4 June, Holyhead V15 Day 4.

Walked in to town to do a bit of shopping and have a coffee, and dropped into the Holyhead Museum, next to the marina and the RNLI shop. The museum is well worth a look. Not that big, but very interesting; all about shipping, rescues, disasters and heroes of Holyhead. We also popped back to the Boathouse, paid our bill and had another drink.
Having decided this was our last day in Holyhead, we went into ‘Langdons’, a bar restaurant in the marina, and had a very pleasant lunch of chicken, done numerous ways, with salad and fries. If you ever end up in Holyhead (you might be lost) give Langdons a try. Excellent service and lovely food.

Another look at Inshore Waters, Shipping and Surface Pressure Charts before settling down for the night, and again in the morning, helped us decide to head for Ireland in the morning.Read more
