Friday 19 June Lochranza to Largs

Original plan was to slip at 0800, so an alarm was set for 0700. Steve got up, looked out of the wheelhouse windows, looked at the instruments, and came back to bed. It was p1$$ing down and had been blowing a hooley all night while we were on a mooring ball. Glad we didn’t anchor but neither of us had much quality sleep. After checking Orca Nav’s weather predictions for today, the wind was easing a bit later. We departed Lochranza at 1125 and the weather was much calmer, if a little overcast. We motor-sailed past the Cock of Arran and over to the bottom of Bute, then around and between the Cumbraes and up into Largs. We did encounter restricted visibility again and were forced to alter course when a German yacht, under power, decided to cross our bows forcing a collision risk. We slowed down, grumbled to each other then carried on. The German then ran a little further south, then altered to port to cross our bow again while proceeding up the west side of the Cumbraes, still under power. Hey ho.

Arrived in Largs at 1445, got squared away and went to the pub.Read more
