A Circumnavigation of Great Cumbrae

Monday 22 June
Well, what a turn up for the books. Outcome this big round shiny hot thing surrounded by blue stuff. Largs is a beautiful Marina. Some say it is the most expensive in Scotland, but the people are lovely, the service is excellent and our stay was comfortable. We managed to top up with diesel, having used about 10 litres less than we thought we had.

Departed around lunchtime, after having topped up with fuel and settled de rather a large Bill (fuel and berthing.) What a wonderful sight, some large classic yachts were racing in the Clyde and we were able to get fairly close without impeding their tracks.
As they reached the end of the race and were getting their sails down, we discovered that, even then, somebody onboard was fiddling with a cellphone!

Our original plan was to wander up the Clyde around to a point off of Greenock, to raise a glass to our old friend Bill Johnson, whose ashes were scattered here on the 28th of May (happen to be my birthday too) however, the wind was on the nose. We had a very pleasant beat up the side of Great Cumbrae and then decided to aim for Rothesay. with the wind in the north and therefore coming down Loch Striven, we decided to change our minds again and did a beautiful goose wing run back down to Millport, where we are now. We decided to launch our dinghy, which is quite a big of evolution, as it lives on the wheelhouse roof, and is covered in solar panels.. Anyway, dinghy launched, duff engine. Engine hoisted into cockpit, given a thorough telling off (two hours) defect sorted and full power trials in Millport. Beautiful sunset, off to bed.Read more
