    Waiʻānapanapa State Park

    June 13, 2023 in the United States ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Our last big stop of our Hana trip on Wednesday was the black sand beach at Waiʻānapanapa State Park! We had made a short stop at Haleakala National Park as well, but the trails were longer than the remaining afternoon would allow. I definitely want to make our way to this end of the Road to Hana next time so we can do these trails (the bamboo forest and the tallest waterfall on the island are in the National Park).

On this trip, though, we had reservations for Waiʻānapanapa State Park at 3:00, so we turned around and headed back toward Hana.

The black sand beach at Waiʻānapanapa didn’t disappoint! The dark black volcanic rocks and sand gleamed in the afternoon sun.

From there, we headed back to our condo, and listened to a short history of King Kamehameha on the drive back. We all really enjoyed the drive and the many beautiful stops along the way. Except for Jack - he hated Hana. 😉
