A goal was to camp on the water/beach and we certainly found one!!! We are steps from the water, if only the fog would clear.

This is the opposite of the last campground. Electric only, lots of fishermen, quiet, a hike to the bathroom, narrow road down a hill to get here and Angus had to back in, which he did with ease.

The last six pictures are from the morning of the 14th. The fog cleared for a few minutes and we caught a glimpse of the coastline. Gorgeous spot to camp!En savoir plus

Parc National de la Gaspésie

We learned that the Parc National de la Gaspésie was created in 1937 to preserve the mountain caribou, the Sainte-Anne River and the Gaspesian mountains.

It was a gorgeous drive from the coast into the mountains. It was completely different and the sun came out as we headed up in elevation away from the foggy coast.

We decided at the visitor center to take on Mont Albert, the premier and double black diamond rated hike. Off we go!En savoir plus

Sentier Mont Albert

This hike was definitely a tough climb up. Listed as 5.7km and we enjoyed the km marker signs along the way, but often felt we’d hiked further than the sign said! 🤣 🥾

Sommet Albert Nord!!!

We made it!!! They have nice benches at the top, lots of rocks and a gorgeous 360 view. Enjoyed hearing all of the French from the many hikers at the top with us. Fun to see kids and families making the hike as well.En savoir plus

Loving this campground. Nice to snuggle in a relax after our big hike. 11.6 km will wear anyone out. So worth it!

We loved the camping in the boat, so fun!

Lots of fisherman here as well. We read up on the estuary we are next to and learned the beluga whale loves this part of the river.En savoir plus

Skipping rocks!

No better way to get the day started than skipping and throwing rocks 🪨 😊

We found some snails 🐌 and shrimp 🦐 swimming in the water, too.

Gaspé Peninsula Drive

We drove up the peninsula more today passing lots of pretty towns nestled along the way. Foggy, but beautiful nonetheless.

One interesting thing is that many houses have driveways that wrap around the house. Also, most houses have flower pots on the front porch and if they are flying a flag, it’s the Québec flag, not the Canadian flag.

Since leaving Québec City we have come across very few English speakers and even fewer US license plates.En savoir plus

Camping Griffon

Arrived at our next campground and it didn’t disappoint! Right on the cliff and 75 steps down to the water.

This is the very first campground on any of our trips where we have found a COMPOST option in the trash and recycling area! So excited to contribute to it!En savoir plus

Forillon National Park #1 - Visitor Cen.

Hit the end peninsula this morning at the Parc National Forillon. Figured out that this is a Canadian national park whereas the others we have visited are Québec National Parks.

Amazing visitor center with a stunning 25 minute video in English or French to enjoy before entering. Highly recommended!

Also learned that the thick red lines/sections on the peninsula are blocked off to protect the animals. The small section above Cap-Bon-Ami is to protect the seals, the section from Cap-Bon-Ami all the way down to the Cap-Gaspé is for the black bears.

Cost to enter: $17.50 CAD (kids 17 and under are free in these parks as well, yeah!)En savoir plus

Forillon #2 - Mont-Saint-Alban

We decided to drive to the south entrance to begin our hike up to Mont-Saint-Alban from the Grande-Grave parking area. In total it was about 2.3km to the top (including our hike from where we parked) and it felt a lot like climbing Mount Cardigan, our home mountain in NH.

Québec or Canada national park, both have high quality signs to show the route. It’s nice to see how far you have climbed and how far you have to go, especially when hiking with children.En savoir plus

Forillon #3 - Mont-Saint-Alban Tour

We reached the top of the observation tower for a 360• view. So worth it!

Mont-Saint-Alban 285 meters

*Footprint may say 68•, but let us tell you that it felt much warmer and the air was thick with humidity. Very sweaty hike up!En savoir plus

Forillon #4 - Hike 2!

Why stop at one 4.6km hike for the day?!? Not us! We trudged on to the Land’s End called Cap-Gaspé.

On the way out we took the Sentier Les Graves, 4km that wound along the coast and up onto the plateau before dipping down to the lighthouse that marks the land’s end.

To return to the truck we took the more direct, but more crowded and less isolated Route de Gravier for 3.2kms.

To say our legs were tired is an understatement! To the beach we go to soothe our muscles.En savoir plus

Forillon #5 - SIA / IAT

We have been seeing these signs with SIA / IAT and finally figured it out.

Sentier Internacional des Appalaches /
International Appalachian Trail

This trail is connected to Mount Katahdin in Maine, the end of the Appalachian Trail, and runs for 1,000km to end here at Cap-Gaspé.

You can also read that France named it the first Grande Randonnée trail in North America. The last 650km are this type of trail and “this accreditation certifies the high standards of quality and promotes the sustainability of this trail.”En savoir plus

After finishing our two long hikes we drove to the southwestern section of the park called Penouille. This was our first look at a sand beach and it didn’t disappoint. You could walk out really far and still be wading. Perfect end to our park experience.En savoir plus

Camping Griffon Night 2

Showers! .25/75 seconds, $1/5 min. Cheaper than our last campground that was $2/5min(only accepted dollar coins aka Loonies). Loving the shower curtain. 🐟 🐠

Almost forgot to include a few pictures of this campsite. It’s a small campground and we are so glad we didn’t settle for any of the other ones nearby. They are all inland and have the campers stacked side by side in open fields. This has trees and is much more secluded. Plus, it has the beach access, pull through sites and full hook ups. Feeling spoiled!

The hostess here gave us top notch advice about visiting the park, too. We certainly had a solid plan going into the day and didn’t need to ask for help at the visitor center which saved us time.

Walking around the campground after dark it’s amazing to see all of the campfires going. Probably 95% of sites have a fire and the laughs and conversations in French are so fun to observe.

Griffon Beach Walk

Our final beach walk on this gorgeous black and white stones beach. We saw a phoque/seal this morning! Very peaceful all around and a wonderful way to start our day. 🦭 🪨

Haulte Municipale Barachois

Québec, along the Gaspé Peninsula at least, has not disappointed with the municipal rest areas. Every single town on the coast has one complete with a stunning view, picnic tables, informational signs, usually a bathroom and a structure for shade. People stop all the time at these for a quick break or a full lunch and we’ve noticed the locals always break out the table cloths and have a fancy feeling picnic on their journey. Québec does this so well! Definitely encourages people to get out and wander for the day.En savoir plus

Angus was craving some seafood after passing by numerous fishing towns and seeing stacks of lobster traps. We found a nice restaurant by the sea and ordered a lobster salad, fish and chips and a lobster club sandwich (Sarah mixed this up, was supposed to get a lobster roll, but ended up with lobster and 🥓 🥬 🍅 instead and loved the change! Arrived at our last campground in Québec. This is another campground on the beach and after dinner we went for a stroll to enjoy the sunset. Nice and easy pull through site with full hook-ups.

Had to check out Tim Horton’s before leaving the country. Yummy and Patrick was surprised to hear French still, but if you look where we are, we are still super close to Québec.
