• Fushimi Inari Shrine

    September 11, 2024 in Japan ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

If you're going to visit popular spots in Kyoto, it's best at night. Fushimi Inari is serene on a pleasant summer night. There's still a decent number of tourists, but not the suffocating crowd you would find here during daytime.

It's easy to get here as there's a station basically dedicated to the shrine just outside the entrance. Once inside we did a little stroll around until we decided to tackle the mountain. We walked the whole way up through the hundreds or thousands of torii here. There are lots of stray cats and a few small boars chilling out here too.

You can really feel the mix of old and new in Japan here. I was soaking in a panoramic view of city lights from a shrine that's been around for 1300 years.

100% worth the visit, but try to go at night time, sunset or early in the morning. Shrines are best appreciated in a peaceful setting.
