Kakadu Day 6 & 7, South to Katherine

I worked Wednesday, so it was a pool and playground day for everyone else.
Thursday, our last day in Kakadu! I went with the kids to the playground in the morning while Ben packed us all up, and we met a family of 4 and their grandma, on holidays for 10days from Queensland. They had two girls, 7 and just turned 5. It was uncanny, the Dad was also Ben, and the younger daughter Poppy was an absolute doppelganger of Eva - same height, blonde curly hair, and they were dressed almost identically in yellow shirts and pink flower shorts, and they even seemed to have similar personalities! A few times I had to check again to make sure it was Eva I was talking to.
After regretful goodbyes with the twinning family we headed south with the van to Maguk. Another gravel road and we weren't sure what to expect of the road further in, so we unhitched the van and left it securely in a pullout and continued on in the ute. Happy with the decision, as we met some pretty rough road and deep soft sand along the way.
We made the hour walk into the waterhole, and were rewarded with beautiful flowing falls, and so many fish swimming about - Millie again not so keen on the fish so she sat it out after a quick dip and busied herself making sandcastles by the water's edge.
After a refreshing swim we walked back out, wishing there was a waterhole at the start to cool off again from the muggy heat). We bid farewell to Kakadu and drove on to Katherine where we stayed the night, reading to head west toward Kunannurra. We stayed at the BIG4 Breeze, a park we'd driven by several times last time we were in Katherine as it's along the road to access the Katherine Farmstay we camped at previously. It turned out to be a great spot - lots of grass and trees, a lovely pool with a spa (perfect temp and height for a stress free paddle with the kids), and a brilliant outdoor bistro serving modern Asian fusion food, maybe our best food out to date. The kids loved it there, playing on the grass and making friends gecko-spotting.Læs mere
