    West Wight Alpacas

August 1, 2016 in the United Kingdom

Alpacas are one of my favourite creatures - they are just so cute & funny to watch ! So of course I had to have some on the itinerary when we were on on our trip ! We could wander along the sides of the paddocks & see the various groups of them easily.

    The Needles

August 1, 2016 in the United Kingdom

We drove along the South Coast of the Island and stopped off at the Needles - mainly fun fair & touristy shops but Mum & I enjoyed going on the chair lift to see the Needles themselves & the sand strata on the cliffs above the beach. Obviously we had to create an ornament with the different colours of sand in layers too !

    Spinnaker Tower

August 1, 2016 in the United Kingdom

We met Mum & Dad off their trains from Hastings at Portsmouth Harbour Station and went to have lunch at the base of the Spinnaker Tower. Rich had booked us a trip up the Spinnaker Tower and we had lovely sunny weather so we could see right out over the Solent to the Isle of Wight and right & left along the Hampshire coastline. One of the dares was to look down through the glass floor panel - we decided to lie down for a photo !Read more

    Rhossili & the Worm's Head

August 1, 2016 in the United Kingdom

It was Michaela's birthday today & we spent the afternoon walking down the Worm's Head with it's stunning views of Rhossii Beach. After a lovely healthy Budda Bowl lunch shared with my sister we set off down the peninsula. It's the first time in about 4 trips that the weather has ever been warm & not so windy that we've had to turn back - we actually got to walk down to the very end ! The boys even climbed down to the beach at the foot of the cliff - the tide was in so the causeway was covered in by the sea & the rip tides were visible from the cliff top.Read more

    Dinefwr

July 16, 2016 in the United Kingdom

When Joyce came to visit we made the most of a dull-ish day & headed up to our nearest National Trust property at Dinefwr where we were able to visit Newton House - Joyce had many memories of visiting this with Les as he had undertaken the Emergency Site plan for this property when he volunteered for the National Trust. We walked down the Boardwalk in the woods through the bog lands & down to the pond. Then we went over & looked around the house & had a coffee in the cafe. The NT have now made arrangements for disabled drivers to drive across a very large & steep field & up to the Castle so we were able to see around the quite impressive ruins for the first time too.Read more

    Krakow Poland

    July 10, 2016 in Poland

A long weekend in the historic & picturesque city of Krakow - a city of lilacs as the trees were blooming on every street & corner.
Krakow claims the largest city square in Europe - and it was a short walk from our Hotel Anders and became the focal point of our evenings as we enjoyed good food, the outdoor market and the hourly bugler from the cathedral clock tower.
And the fruit vodkas added to the fun !
We took a tour to Auschwitz against my better judgement and I didn't feel that the guided tour experience allowed me to give the place the emotional respect it deserved.
I preferred the city with its old buildings - mostly rebuilt after the war which devastated the country - and the curious burial mound outside the city. It was a charming place and somewhere I would visit again.

    Faro Portugal

    July 10, 2016 in Portugal

Our final stay was a night in Faro, to ensure we were near the airport for an early flight home. faro is an ancient town dating back to Roman times & today has a small old quarter around the Se - or cathedral. We stayed at Hotel Eva on the Marina and took a golf cart tour with Ernesto of the city to see all the sights. In the evening we wandered into the pedestrianised area close to the hotel and wandered around the shops before settling on the Vasco da Gama seafood restaurant for a final Cataplana to round off the holiday in style.Read more

    Gale Portugal

    July 10, 2016 in Portugal

After a busy few days we headed South down to the Algave to a small residential area west of Albufeira.
We stayed in a small 40 room luxury hotel - Villa Gale - set about 100 yards from a long sandy beach. This part of the holiday was about relaxing by the pool !
I enjoyed an early morning walk just after 7am when the beach was virtually deserted - but by lunchtime it was a wash with families, multi-coloured umbrellas, windbreaks & towels until the sun went down. We had a fabulous meal out of stunning fish brochette right on the beach side as the sun set - just so holiday !Read more
