• Hello Little India

    June 7, 2015 in Singapore ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Yesterday I spent some time in one of Singapore's iconic corners: Little India. The sights, smells, sounds and tastes made it a wonderfully unique experience of the senses. After visiting the crowded wet market in the morning, I made my way through the streets and open shops. The prices of the bargain shopping outlets rival those of even Chinatown, but here is where you go if you want to get clothes, fabrics, spices and jewellery instead of trinkets and gadgets. I also checked out many religious buildings, many of which are neighboring or across the street from each other. It's pleasant to see so many different cultures living together in peace and respect for one another, truly showing how different people can still live in harmony. Today I plan to go down Orchard road, another open shopping market and tourist hotspot. Chow for now!

P.S. The last picture is of a food called black carrot cake. It comes in two varieties (black and white, that is, with or without sauce) and is absolutely delicious, although it is neither cake nor is it made of carrots! I suspect is has eggs and thick noodles in it, but I'll have to try some more to really put my finger on it.
