    Vilalba to Baamonde

    September 13, 2022 in Spain ⋅ ☁️ 16 °C

Another early morning, alarm goes off at 6:00 am, I call out to Lisa “you can have the bathroom first up this morning” before throwing the covers over my head, rolling over and trying to pretend I don't have to get up. I had an afternoon nap yesterday, so tossing and turning was always going to be on the agenda last night. I wait till 6:30 am before getting out of bed, I get ready and we are on the trail by 7:30 am. It is raining and the sun hasn't risen yet, there is enough moonlight that we don't need a headlamp which is rather lucky, as we both sent ours on to Santiago (trying to cut our weight down). The trail today is beautiful, the rain continues for the next 30 minutes or so, there is a breeze and the walking conditions are absolutely perfect, we have a slight up hill at the start of our walk then the rest is pretty flat, we are able to kick it up a couple of gears and even overtake some pilgrims - this never happens, we don't understand what is going on! About 10 km in we come across a lovely little bar we stop for a coffee and baños break, we spend a good half hour here recharging our batteries, I meet a lovely lady from the USA as we are lined up to use the baños, her and her 2 companions have been walking the Camino del Norte since 2013 (they take 2 weeks every year, except through COVID) and walk the trail, they will make it to the end this year and will start the Camino Portugese next year. I love hearing pilgrims stories, it's so interesting and they are always different. We are off again and before we know it, it is 12:30 pm and we are walking into our destination for today ‘Baamonde’. There are so many pilgrims on the trail now and the vibe is pumping, we are nearing the last 100 km of our Camino and everyone is excited, also a lot of pilgrims may have just started, you need to walk the last 100 km in order to receive your compostela. We make it to our accommodation which is also a lovely bar, we get settled in for the arvo, order lunch and enjoy the vibe, oh and watching the rain fall, whilst sitting inside drinking vino!Read more
