I've been wanting to come here for soooooo long. Today was the perfect time to grab a ferry trip before heading out this afternoon. After listening to a very amusing warning speech by the captain ("The island just opened up from the hurricanes three days ago. I'm my opinion, they should not have opened. Even though we say we'll be there to help you during your time on the island, we won't. We are literally dropping you off on a deserted island. You might want to pee before you get on the boat. And don't get lost on the island because we're not going in to find you. All the directional signs got blown away. Oh and there's a ghost town for you to explore. Have fun! "
I boarded with my new buddy Sarge. Sarge lives in Fort Lauderdale and he's been touring all the Florida lighthouses. Still not entirely sure why but that's a him thing.
The ride over took an hour, which is surprising since it looks so close to De soto. But the ride was beautiful--cornflower blue sky and teal water. The amazing part was seeing a giant sea swimming along his way.
We got to the island and she went one way to the lighthouse (of course) and I headed to the beach.
I was hoping to see amazing shells and I was not disappointed at all. It's so cool to me that de Soto and Ergmont are so close together but with vastly different creatures.
Unfortunately I didn't find a sharks tooth. Next time!
After a bit, I wandered around the fort and the lighthouse. The destruction on the island is no joke and it was a complicated walk getting to these places, but worth the walk.
These solo adventures are really feeding my soul. It's a rare feeling for me to simply give into whatever I want to do and to be centered in my head and free in my soul. It's a whole different experience than when I'm with people. Not better, not worse. Just different.
Sometimes my brain is firing in a million ways and ideas are pulsating like a strobe light. Other times like today, my brain is silent, just floating around without a care in the world.
Ergmont is a perfect place to rest my brain.
