    Ergmont Key

    April 19 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 75 °F

I've been wanting to come here for soooooo long. Today was the perfect time to grab a ferry trip before heading out this afternoon. After listening to a very amusing warning speech by the captain ("The island just opened up from the hurricanes three days ago. I'm my opinion, they should not have opened. Even though we say we'll be there to help you during your time on the island, we won't. We are literally dropping you off on a deserted island. You might want to pee before you get on the boat. And don't get lost on the island because we're not going in to find you. All the directional signs got blown away. Oh and there's a ghost town for you to explore. Have fun! "
I boarded with my new buddy Sarge. Sarge lives in Fort Lauderdale and he's been touring all the Florida lighthouses. Still not entirely sure why but that's a him thing.
The ride over took an hour, which is surprising since it looks so close to De soto. But the ride was beautiful--cornflower blue sky and teal water. The amazing part was seeing a giant sea swimming along his way.
We got to the island and she went one way to the lighthouse (of course) and I headed to the beach.
I was hoping to see amazing shells and I was not disappointed at all. It's so cool to me that de Soto and Ergmont are so close together but with vastly different creatures.
Unfortunately I didn't find a sharks tooth. Next time!
After a bit, I wandered around the fort and the lighthouse. The destruction on the island is no joke and it was a complicated walk getting to these places, but worth the walk.
These solo adventures are really feeding my soul. It's a rare feeling for me to simply give into whatever I want to do and to be centered in my head and free in my soul. It's a whole different experience than when I'm with people. Not better, not worse. Just different.
Sometimes my brain is firing in a million ways and ideas are pulsating like a strobe light. Other times like today, my brain is silent, just floating around without a care in the world.
Ergmont is a perfect place to rest my brain.
    Aaaahhhhhhh

  • Imagine Museum tour

    April 18 in the United States ⋅ ☁️ 81 °F

Hitting the imagine museum twice in one month?? Yes sir since they are hosting a night market and glass blowing exhibition.
    The night market.... Meh.
    The glass blowing.... Fine.
The audio tour of the museum... Amazing!
    Here are my favorites:
    1. The intricate paper weights where there is a hidden world to see underneath but only if you know to look in the mirrors.
    2. The signs about human rights all over the museum.
    3. The creramic sculptures that were created by wrapping clay around dynamite, blowing it up, then fusing glass in it
    4. The optional illusion piece that is intricately painted so you see different things as you move around the piece.
    5. The glass masks of famous women in art.
    Simply amazing!

  • A hairy Manatee, Axolotls, and Eugenie

    April 13 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 68 °F

I decided to round out my Sarasota Vacation by going to the Mote Aquarium. What an amazing aquarium this WAS! I saw things I've never seen before. Coming into the front door, the first plaque I read was about a Eugenie Clark, a scientist nicknamed the Shark Lady. I realized that this woman was the subject of a picture book that I had as a child and then I recently found the same picture book in my favorite used bookstore. How incredible the memories were to reread that book and now to go to this aquarium that she founded was thrilling to me.
I got to wander around the aquarium since it wasn't crowded at all. I got the close-up look at everything that was going on. There was a manatee called Buffett-- yes named after Jimmy Buffett-- who was having his feeding time and was chomping on all of his lettuce leaves like a good boy. I never realized how hairy manatees are but being able to see him this close showed that he's covered in bristles.
I also got to see all kinds of interesting sea creatures I've never seen before in my life. I got to touch a shark and a stingray. I got to see aquariums full of all different kinds of jellyfish. And I got to talk to a really cool person in the gift store about Adventures and finding these new ways to explore the world.
What a wonderful way to end my Sarasota trip I'm so glad I did this trip and I can't wait to do another solo weekend Adventure sometime soon.

  • Coconut Mochas and an ass from Jersey

    April 13 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 57 °F

Not a lot is open at 7:00 in the morning on Siesta Key but one coffee shop is. I got there a few minutes before it was going to open there's already another fellow in line then this guy from New Jersey decides to come and cut both of us. I guess I should have stood up to him but what the heck... if he needed caffeine that badly, then be my guest. It did make me laugh though when he was telling me very pompously that he was hoping to bump into his daughters friends who were "also going down to the Florida Keys for spring break". Dumbass doesn't realize siesta key and the Florida keys are totally different. I encouraged him to look around for them because the keys are so small he'll find them easily.
    A**hole.
But the coffee was good and it was a fun place to chill out. I took a long beach walk and spent a while doodling in the shared art Journal that my mom, aunt and I do together. Twas a lovely morning.

  • Ringling Art Museum doesn't clown around

    April 12 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 73 °F

This art museum is stunning, and it goes on and on and on and on. I would think I saw everything, but there would be a new hallway to walk down and I would find myself in a whole new gallery. From Titan to modern Japanese potters to mystical art to larger than life bronze reproductions of David to glass to performance art. I walked around for five hours and still didn't see everything. Amazing!Read more

  • The Ringling Museum

    April 12 in the United States ⋅ 🌬 73 °F

I clearly remember going to the Ringling Bros... Circus in NYC when I was 7 years old or so. I got the best souvenir - - the program. I poured through it over and over. And had it mostly memorized.
While I was touring this museum, I saw some direct memories from that show/program. Gunther Gabel-Williams was highly featured in the museum and I haven't thought about him since I was a child who was wildly impressed with the idea of being a circus star like him.
When the kids were little, we brought them to the circus and saw Bello Nock perform. Fun to see his outfit here.
    Super impressive museum--9/10.

  • Siesta Key

    April 12 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 68 °F

Glad to be here. I've always heard how amazing it is. My viewpoint--- it's fine. The St. Pete beaches are better. Desoto is much less crowded, sand is softer, more wildlife to see. But hey.... How can I say these views are subpar? Still amazing!!!Read more

  • Clever Cup Coffee

    April 12 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 64 °F

Quick stop for breakfast and a little more caffeine with raspberry mocha and Gf pumpkin cheesecake muffin

  • Paradeco - - maple coffee & dolphins

    April 12 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 63 °F

First stop on my mini solo adventure brought me to this hidden treasure of a coffee shop in a random hotel. Doesn't look like much from the outside but when I found my way to the shop I discovered a shop with the friendliest staff, most delicious maple cinnamon coffee and a place to sit on the beach with the skyway bridge in the background, dolphins flipping up fish, and the most beautifully green palm trees under a teal sky.
My trip is starting off amazing!

  • HAIR-LET THE SUN SHINE IN

    March 26 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 79 °F

    Outdoor theater? Yes please.
Downtown st Pete on the water? Yes please.
    HAIR the musical? Yes please.
What a cool show and a cool vibe. Back in the day when the kids were little, we had a CD that I played in the minivan (!!!!!) that were Broadway kids stars singing Broadway songs. One was Hair, and I always loved it when it came on because the lyrics were so fun. Even more fun to see it performed live. Super cool night!Read more

  • Glass and Harps - - like Reeces cups

    March 18 in the United States ⋅ ☀️ 79 °F

Chocolate and peatnut butter.... Bert and Ernie... Glass and harp music - - two great things that go great together.
The imagine museum has been on my radar for a hot minute but I finally got inspired to go with their super cheap tuesday night $5 deal. My alligator arms were super happy. And the fact that there would be a harp concert too? At least one of the two couldn't stick too bad.
Turns out they both were incredible. Who knew?
