Freetown Christiana

And then, let's walk some more! We headed to Freetown Christiana, a very interesting part of town with a strange history. It started as a freestanding comune of people wanting to separate from governmental regulations back in the 1970s. The government allowed them to do that and it has remained the same way since. Exceot there is one street that is renowned for being the "druggie and anything else you want that's illegal" Kind of streets. So historically you were not allowed to take photos on Christiana because the hashish dealers did not want to be in camera. But based on the signs, they are cracking down now on some of the illegal behaviors and welcome photo talking as a way to discourage the drugs.

Not sure how much longer "Freetown" will be free.

There were a ton of free range kids though. Ahhh... The joys of living on a comune. Must be a fun way to grow up!Meer informatie
