    Flying into Reno

    September 6 in the United States ⋅ 🌬 63 °F

    You can always tell when you get off a plane in Reno. The sounds and lights of slot machines greet you the minute you walk off the ramp.

    We rented our car and enjoyed an hour ride to Lake Tahoe with a quick stop at Costco of course. Finally, we got to our large penthouse two bedroom condo. What a treat!Read more

    Wonderful Week

    I usually write every day but I've been busy. We've been exploring South Lake Tahoe every day. We rented electric bikes for the first time and Cindy loved it! I was amazed my knees functioned for almost an hour! The extra power was amazing 👍 We were able to go much farther and (Cindy 's favorite part) go on dirt trails.

    There are many nearby walking trails to explore. Each one says to watch out for bears. We keep looking but have yet to see any.    Read more

    Walking in the Woods

    I wish I could share the smell of the ponderosa forest on a warm day with a slight breeze off the lake. The sounds of the mountain stellar jay echoing back and forth. The calm peacefulness of walking alone with only the friendly chipmunks, sunning lizards and huge squirrels who don't even give you notice as the stuff their cheeks.

    Today I enjoyed a family memory of walking through campgrounds and "checking things out". I wonder if others scope out campers and dream of the one they might one day own or enjoy looking at the different ways families arrange their tents. I can wander around different campgrounds for hours... even as I return to my condo.

    I walked 10, 000 steps for the first time since my multiple knee surgeries and it felt good. This has been a refreshing and relaxing trip.    Read more

    Day on the Lake

    Today we took a 2 hour paddle boat trip around Lake Tahoe. It was a beautiful day for a boat ride! Lake Tahoe is the deepest Alpine lake in North America and 2nd in the world. Lake Titicaca is deeper. It is fed by 63 mountain streams and is extremely clear. You can see 70 ft. or more below the surface!

     It holds 39 trillion gallons of water. Think about covering CA in almost 14 inches of water or giving each person in the US 50 gallons of water a day for 5 years!! That's a lot of water! Because it's so deep, it never freezes. It's also one of the purest bodies of water in the world with 99.994% of the water pure. Commercially distilled water 99.998% pure. They call Lake Tahoe: The Lake of the Sky because it reflects the color of the sky. On clear days the water is blue 💙 on cloudy days it reflects the trees and the water turns green 💚

    Later that evening we saw Alex Ramon who won Penn and Teller Fool Us Season 8 (look it up on You Tube) He has a cute blond assistant named MJ with 4 legs and was one of the best magic shows I've ever seen. Another great day in Tahoe.    Read more

    Find Animals

    What do you do when you have time before your plane takes off? Look for an animal place! No zoo, but the only fully accredited animal rescue in northern Nevada. They accept injured, illegally obtained, and animals that cannot be released back into the wild. The bear was a nuisance around Lake Tahoe. The racoons were found as kits on a hay truck and bonded to humans. The big cats were confiscated by Wildlife Officials in CA. Several animals were retired TV stars🤩. The porcupine was used to teach dogs to stay away from wild porcupines until the owner traveled too much. It was a good way to stretch our legs before our flight and enjoy our last beautiful day.

    Virginia City

    Dianna and I drove to Virginia City an hour away and it happened to be the yearly Camel Races! This event brings people from CA and TX. It was unexpectedly Fun.

    Before we even got there, we were surprised to see 5 Wild Horses Crossing Right in Front of us. The stallion led his mares with such confidence.

    The population of Virginia City is about 690 but over 10,000 people attend the annual Camel and Ostrich Races yearly!

    In the 1870s, the largest gold and silver mine was discovered and the town grew to 25,000! It ran out in the 1880s but became a National Historic Landmark District in 1961 and the backdrop of some of the Bananza westerns. The wooden sidewalks and classic saloons would fit any westerns. We saw many folks packing hip pistols and they weren't even dressed up! The races were fun and the scenery was unbelievable!

    That night I went to Mass at Our Lady of Lake Tahoe which was right next to the condo. The view from the pew was the woods and our condo! We have been blessed to be surrounded by such beauty.    Read more
