  • Burgers at Salty Beardman

    October 14, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 24 °C

Got into Qld and Kingscliffe in the nick of time to get some burgers from the Salty Beardman. We came here a few years ago and the burgers were great, so thought we'd give it another go.

Hubby and Rob had the beef, bacon and cheese burgers, mum had calamari salad, and I had the veggie burger. Really yummy and glad we got to give this joint another go.Read more

  • Tamarind Sands Resort

    October 14, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 25 °C

We've arrived at our home away from home for the next week. Nice, cosy and with lots of space in the unit. Sorely lacking in PowerPoints but we will manage.

Some super cool areas in the resort. A jumping pillow for me to do gymnastics training, plus a playground with more things for gymnastics training, a pool/spa area, mini golf, jumbo board games like connect 4 and chess, a gym with heaps of equipment and a lounge with a range of games and chill areas.

Off to go and bake and swim at the pool!

  • Sunrise at Cabarita Beach

    October 15, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 17 °C

Went for a walk at 6am whilst hubby and the folks were snoozing. A beautiful sunrise over Cabarita Beach. We will walk up the cliffside at some point as it's meant to be a gorgeous walk.

Saw a whale!!!!! A blink and you'd miss it moment but so cool!

Also walked up a bit further and found all the surfers in a little cove area. Just stunning.

  • Pottsville Market

    October 15, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 22 °C

Went for a wander up to the Pottsville Market. Really well priced market with a wide variety of stuff. Felt like market prices from 10 years ago! Bought myself a necklace and a piece of amethyst ($10 each), some Portugese egg tarts ($5 each) and even got to see a cheeky koala hanging up in the tree. Also the relish guy had the best stuff, got a business card so I can buy when I get home!Read more

  • Dinner at The Stunned Mullet

    October 15, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

Had scrummy fish and chips at the stunned mullet. The calamari was SO GOOD, and we had crumbed fish, some potato scallops (physically gags at having to even say potato scallops) and pineapple rings. Really really delish- just too much salt on the (gulp) scallops, so had to wipe them down a bit but after that they were yum!Read more

  • Some random rock lookout in Currumbin

    October 16, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

We've arrived in Currumbin an hour early so to kill some time climbed the stairs of this random rock next to the lifesaver club (which we will go and have a drink at). There were lizards everywhere on this rock, and the view was pretty great as well!Read more

  • Currumbin Beach Vikings Club

    October 16, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 23 °C

    Breakfast with a view!

We are right on top of the water here, watching the waves crash into the rockpool area.

Michael got their big breakfast and I stole the bacon and the baked beans. For drinks, Michael had a Banana milkshake and I had a chai latte.

Michael commented that the eggs were amazing, and it was so refreshing to get such thick, good quality toast to go with the meal. My portions were all yum. Drinks were tasty too.

Enough time to kill before hitting up the wildlife sanctuary at 9am.

  • Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary

    October 16, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 27 °C

Having a lovely time at the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. A lot of really lovely animals and areas to explore. It's very hot today so a lot of the animals are just lounging about in all sorts of funny ways but we've been lucky to spot everything in every enclosure. Caught the wild bird show as well which took an interesting turn when the owl got caught in a giant gust of wind by its tail feather and then attacked by a bunch of other birds and ended up upside down over the dingo cage. Was a bit of excitement and reminds you that the animals are in fact animals hahahah.

The aviaries were gorgeous here and we saw a huge variety of birds, especially ground birds but also some huge colourful pigeons and parrots.

Michael got some great shots so will upload pics later.

    Also there are lizards EVERYWHERE

  • New Brighton Farmers Market

    October 17, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 18 °C

We have ended up at a farmer's market that is clearly designed for locals and not tourists! Loads of different fresh, locally grown produce!!!! Very different to the tourist centric markets and more like the farmers market back in Traralgon.

I got some kefir to try from a local dairy (not a huge fan tbh but downed half of it for the health benefits) and we got some sausage rolls and an apple pastry from the patisserie and they were divine. So so so good.

  • Byron Bay Lighthouse Walk

    October 17, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 20 °C

Managed to nab a carpark ($10 because Byron) right at the top of the lighthouse which was a score. Beautiful drive up to the lighthouse in the Forrest.

There were whales about but we didn't see them, we did get to see 2 big pods of dolphins though!

We did the east walk all the way down to little Wategos beach, which was a gorgeous secluded mini beach (if I were a beach person that's where I would go to get away from the crowds) and then went on the platform I have pictured.

It was very windy and a steep walk all the way down and back up, so the legs have had quite the workout and we have built quite the appetite. It was also super super windy, so kept the hat in the car.

  • Lunch at Beef and Beach

    October 17, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 20 °C

A deliciously satiating lunch out in Lennox Head. I was hanging for seafood and the seafood prices in Byron were making me cry. So glad we went out here because I had the best dish of my holiday, and I don't think anything will top it.

Michael decided to lash out and get some cocktails, opting for a cranberry and pomegranate margarita, and a lemon meringue. I just had ginger beer.

For lunch, Michael had a classic Parma. It had great chips with it and the Parma itself was beautiful with a light crumb.

I had the char grilled prawns, which came in confit garlic, chilli butter, some leafy greens and grilled bread. Being the creative I am, I concocted that the meal could be elevated with the addition of the French mashed potato.

I was bang on. It was divine. Even Michael tried and agreed it was so good, and stole some mash for his Parma!

Now to get home so I can go into satiation coma.

  • Jumping Pillow Gym

    October 17, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 18 °C

Training my gymnastics basics on the jumping pillow. So funny that I call these basics now hahahah. Shows how much progress I have made.

The pillow isn't long enough for me to combine any tumbling passes without risking flying off the thing, but still enjoying practising. Need to keep my legs glued on the backflip entry! Also thanks to the folks and hubby for entertaining this idea and filming.Read more

  • Cudgen Nature Reserve

    October 18, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Went for a wander down to the wetlands near our hotel. It's cloudy up here today as there's a big fire burning down in Byron but it's nice to see the sunrise pepper through the clouds.

There are lots of birds here. Have seen the bush birds, robins, lorikeets, ducks, magpies and even big tall white birds which I managed to capture mid flight. There are also lots of twisty trees!

Wandered back by the river and found an abandoned canoe by the riverbend.

  • Seaworld

    October 18, 2023 in Australia ⋅ 🌬 22 °C

Today we decided to drive up to the Gold Coast and go to Seaworld! Visited all the sea animals, and fed the stingrays. We also went to the underwater shark bay right when someone was doing a one on one cage snorkel so there were so many rays, sharks and turtles all in the one place it was nuts!

Got to see the dolphins up close, as a keeper was playing with footballs and one of the dolphins was super keen to play. They were like 2 metres in front of us! A really fun moment.

Also, Michael got on a rollercoaster for the first time in 15 years. We went on the jetski rollercoaster, which has no loops and no height. It's one of my favourite coasters as you get strapped in like you are on a jetski. He screamed a lot (as did I) and he both liked it and was scared by it, but once was definately enough! Proud wife moment.

  • Sunset Dinner on Norries Head

    October 18, 2023 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 20 °C

Took Michael up to the top of Norries head (aka the big rock) to have a little romantic dinner watching the sunset.

Despite the weather being colder and cloudy, we managed to peep some beautiful pockets of pink. We got some pizzas from the local pizza joint (the dough is really nice, fave easily the Hawaiian which had proper expensive shredded ham on it) and just relaxed and treasured the view and company.Read more
