  • Room Service and Night Views

    March 7, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

Needed a bit of a health boost, so we decided to get room service and relax at the hotel with our amazing views for the night! I had a roasted pumpkin salad with cranberry juice, and Michael had a blt Panini with mango and passionfruit smoothie. My phone isn't doing our night view justice, it's so pretty with all the glittery lights from all the buildings.Read more

  • Wandering Surfers Paradise and Breakfast

    March 8, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

Having an early wander around Surfers Paradise whilst Michael has a sleep in and relax at our lush hotel penthouse 😍😍😂😂. Surfers beach is beautiful in the morning. The streets are pretty deserted, which is a curious way to explore the city. Have stopped in for a hearty breakfast at the Cuppa in 41 Community Initiative Cafe. It's a cafe run by disadvantaged youth to help them get employed. Really great initiative, and super affordable. Had a very yummy farmers omelette with bacon, potato and onion, and a mocha with a lot of froth. Really hearty and deliciously made by my young chef. $14 in total which is great for middle of the city dining.Read more

  • Crazy Cat Cafe

    March 8, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Stopped by to visit some kitty cats at the cat cafe. All the cats are very chill and sleepy, but we did get to have a little cuddle with one super friendly one!!! Michaels Irish Creme frappe was pretty amazing also!!!Read more

  • Lumber Punks!

    March 8, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

This afternoon Michael and I went to Lumber Punks! Lumber Punks is basically bowling, but with axes! We had a great instructer who gave us the safety run down, the physics and the techniques for throwing various styles of axes, and had a bit of a game as well! Michael flogged me in the game, but I did get a bull's-eye! After our game we got to really play with some unique axes and we found our favourites that we got quite consistent with. Michael's was the Chinese Gang Axe, and mine was the Competition Axe (I also did really well with The Bastard, which is the chrome one I'm holding). A really really fun fitness activity, I'm sure our arms will feel it tomorrow!Read more

  • Dinner at Osaka Kaiten Sushi

    March 8, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

We've ducked accross the road from our hotel to have a Japanese feast. Starting with the sushi train, we've had fried chicken sushi, teriyaki chicken rice balls, raw salmon, poached prawns, and tempura prawns. Michael even was game and tried the seaweed ones, and didnt mind it! He also likes the rice when it's well cooked and sticky like the Japanese have it (which is a score in my book as it opens up lots of dining options). Then we had chicken karaage and some of the best pork dumplings we've ever had. Silky smooth thin skins, with great unami in the pork flesh and stock. Then, it was soups, with Michael having a half serve of ramen and me a small miso soup, then we shared a beautiful beef Katsu curry. Finished up the night with a range of ice creams and rice cakes (sakura, vanilla and mango cakes, mango, green tea and black sesame ice cream). Ice cream based of herbs and spices is seriously the best. The meal seems like a lot but portions are small and so it felt both light yet filling. Yummo!!! Also, we had Nippon Chu Hi Ciders, I had Yuzu flavour and Michael had peach. Mine was refreshing but Michael's was heavenly, one of the best ciders we've ever had. Winning, full and happy!Read more

  • Cubby Bakehouse before Snorkelling

    March 9, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 22 °C

We've hopped over the border to Chimera NSW to finally get on our snorkelling trip with Cooley Eco Adventures. We're heading to Cook Island (aka turtle island) to snorkel with turtles! Having a quick breakfast at Cubby Bakehouse and holy moly is this delicious. Sausage roll, ham and cheese croissant and a caramel eclair (followed by a GF hazelnut brownie after our snorkelling trip that Michael thought was the best brownie he's ever eaten) . Best eclair we've ever had! YummoRead more

  • Turtle Island Snorkelling!!!

    March 9, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

We had the most amazing snorkelling experience with Cooley Eco Adventures. The boat ride in and out was super fun and bouncing on loads of waves. We got to see a mummy dolphin with her weeny calf before we got to the island, which was so cute! The snorkelling at the island itself was incredible. We got to see so many fish, coral, turtles and wobblegongs. Some others in our group also saw sharks and a manta ray. Our guides were informative and great, and Michael did an awesome job for his first snorkel ever, as the conditions were tough even on a great swimmer like me. He ended up having mask issues with his moustache and was tiring so went in early whilst I galivanted about with the others. Got so close to the turtles, even bumped into one by accident! At the very end, I was surrounded by 4 of them within half a metre away, it was crazy and I've never had a water park experience like it!!!! Really loved this trip, the best snorkel of my life!!! Photos coming soon as we are purchasing their go pro footage which we should get tonight!!!Read more

  • Fish Burgers at the Salty Beardman

    March 9, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

Our snorkelling guide recommended this place as the best fish burger in the country so we thought we'd give it a go. We've had about 1 fish burger between us in our lives so not much to compare to but figured why not. They were grilled barramundi and we're bloody delicious. Not normally a fan of tartare sauce but it added a Perfect tanginess and moisture to the burger. We both loved it. Nom nom.Read more

  • Asian Degustation at Hideaway

    March 9, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Queensland continues to deliver on the food front. Hideaway in Broadbeach was recommended by our axe instruction and one of our local snorkelling partners, so we figured given the overlap we should give it a go. This place was phenomenal. We think we've hit a peak, and we just keep getting wowed by our choices in venues and the incredible food they provide. Cocktails were heaven as well, I had a Tuk Tuk and Michael had a Spiced Colada. Yummy. We once again opted for small sharing plates and had some of the most gorgeous food I can't even deal. Here's what was on the menu:

Duck Spring Rolls with Canton Sauce (all spring rolls should be made with duck)
JFC karaage chicken with lime and spicy aioli
Crispy chilli salted squid with sriracha aioli
    xia long bao soup dumplings
    Prawn and crab gao-ji
    Satay chicken with peanut sauce
Pork belly with sweet soy (a top contender)
    Roti with curry sauce
    Wok fried vegetables (divine)

    Comatose.

  • Lazy Day at Surfers

    March 10, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☀️ 28 °C

Our bodies are nice and sore today from the snorkelling yesterday, so we are taking a well deserved rest day. Spent the morning going through the Wyndham timeshare which was a lot of fun, and have headed back up to Cuppa on 41 for brunch. Another beautiful meal made by the students. Now off to the hotel to relax in the hotel and head to the spa once it starts thunder storming later today.Read more

  • Wet 'N Wild

    March 11, 2021 in Australia ⋅ 🌧 24 °C

We are out at Wet 'N Wild today, and it's not hugely busy. There area few rides closed for maintenance but most are open. Michael is game and going on the AquaLoop! He thought it was pretty crazy but glad he did it. I'm just watching 😁 Won't be taking many pics as we will be busy riding slides!!!! We really enjoyed the speed racers, the big goldrush mountain slides, and the calypso bay lazy river. The pitch black slide was a great one too. It started to pour in the afternoon and we'd had enough as we had done all the rides, so headed home early and relaxed at the hotel before wandering down into surfers for our final night in QLD.Read more

  • The Last Supper in Surfers at CocoHut

    March 11, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

We've wandered down 500m from the hotel to CocoHut, a local Thai restaurant that got great reviews online. Once again, the internet delivers, as this is gorgeous Thai. Everything is delish.
On the menu is pink lemonade, entrees of Roti with Satay, shrimp cakes with plum sauce, and lemongrass chicken Wontons. Mains are Tom Yum with Crispy Chicken, Massamam Curry with coconut rice. Every dish and it's condiment are perfectly paired and taste amazing. Michael LOVED his soup. My coconut rice is the best I've ever had (Massamam is awesome too).
We knew there was no way we would get through all this, so have taken doggy bags of our mains to have tomorrow morning before we check out of our hotel.

  • Mt Tamborine Rainforest Skywalk

    March 12, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

We've checked out of our hotel (bye Wyndham, we will see you again soon!) and decided to duck up to Mt Tambourine for a few hours before having to drop the car off and head to the airport. Our main stop is here at the Mt Tamborine Skywalk. It's a lovely mix of high up in the trees walking and on the ground through to specific lookout areas. We even saw a lizard eat a caterpillar (and a bird eat a beautiful butterfly 😕). Some lovely view points but a little dizzy after a while!!!Read more

  • Lunch at Three Little Pigs Bar & Bistro

    March 12, 2021 in Australia ⋅ 🌧 22 °C

Relaxing up in the Tamborine Mountains at Three Little Pigs. They're famous up here for there pork belly and their desserts so we thought we'd stop in. We had some small dumplings for entree, then Michael had the Oink 'n Surf and I had the lamb rack. Very delicious. For dessert we shared a mango mouse. Now to head to the car rental place to drop off the car and then into the airport to veg until our flight. The foods been phenomenal up here, but I am looking forward to making myself one of my famous fruit and veg salad plates for lunch tomorrow!Read more

  • Brisbane Airport

    March 12, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

We've just been Netflix and chilling at Brisbane Airport. Have found ourselves a booth and planted roots for a few hours until our flight boards just after 7pm. Back in the masks (Boo) but we've worked out that if we just have drinks and some food near us we don't have to wear them (Yay). We've had a wonderful time on holiday and now it's time to come home and see Alana and the cats!!!Read more
