758 kms - Crossed the border into the Northern Territory. Was a long drive today, we saw everything on the side of the road from burnt out cars, cattle and even camels! Tonight’s camp is at the Ayers Rock Resort. It is such a nice place to stay. Was our 7 year anniversary today so we celebrated by going to see Bruce Munro’s Field of Lights. It’s a breathtakingly beautiful garden of 50,000 ‘seeds’ of light, each made by hand blown glass. The fibre-optic fingers spread out across the space of four football fields. It truly was magical.Läs mer

  • Litchfield, NT

    22 juni 2021, Australien ⋅ ☀️ 33 °C

111 kms - Litchfield Tourist Park is our next stop for 2 nights while we explore the National Park. Today we saw Florence Falls, had a swim at Bluey Rockhole, a cascading series of pools which were great to relaxing in and finished the day off at the Magnetic Termite Mounds. Unlike the usual Cathedral Termite Mounds you see throughout the north, these gravestone looking high-rises are architectural feats. They are aligned north to south to minimise the exposure to the sun: interesting..Läs mer

Our first stop in the national park was Bamboo Creek. Established around 1906, the Bamboo Creek Tin Mine provides an insight into the small scale mining activities of the era. Some sections of the old buildings are still standing, and you can see remnants of equipment relating to ore extraction, processing, transport, an explosives magazine as well as domestic objects. Tin was mined at the site sporadically until it was abandoned in 1955.Läs mer

Wow - what an amazing experience. Katherine Gorge, or Nitmiluk as it is traditionally know is just spectacular. It’s Indigenous name comes from the NitNit sound the cicadas make and Miluk means country. This diverse landscape is also a cultural landscape, where Jawoyn people live and work, continuing and sharing their culture. The river covers a vast area, including 13 impressive gorges carved from the ancient sandstone cliffs that glow in the changing light. Got to stop and have a swim in the second gorge.Läs mer

  • Mataranka, NT

    26 juni 2021, Australien ⋅ ⛅ 24 °C

106 kms - Next stop.... Mataranka Homestead in the Elsey National Park. What a popular spot. We arrived at 9:30am and already there was a line up of 9 vans awaiting check in! Once set up we headed for a swim at Bitter Springs. The water was beautiful and warm and current allowed you to get in one end and float to the other! So relaxing. In the afternoon we headed for a dip at the Materanka Hot Springs, again it was beautiful and relaxing but we did both prefer Bitter Springs as it seemed more ‘natural’.
We ended the day with dinner and entertainment by ‘The Repeat Offenders’ and got to see 5 world record holder in whip cracking, Nathan Whippy Griggs in action.... wow!
