One day - many things to do...Pt. 2

🇩🇪 Nachdem wir uns den Tempel Angkor Wat angeschaut hatten, ging es auch gleich weiter zum nächsten - Ta Prohm. Der Tempel ist vielleicht fast noch bekannter als Angkor Wat, nämlich als „Tomb Raider“ - oder „Indiana Jones“-Tempel. Viele Hollywoodfilme wurden hier bereits gedreht. Das liegt daran, dass der Tempel nach und nach vom Dschungel zurückgefordert wird und damit spektakuläre Ansichten zu Tage bringt. Anders als Angkor Wat hat Ta Prohm kein 5m in den Boden reichendes Fundament, dass dem Bauwerk aus hauptsächlich Sandstein (vulkanähnliche Steine werden als Verstärkung ins Innere der Mauern gebaut) seinen Halt gibt und somit auch dafür verantwortlich ist, dass der Tempel immer noch so gut erhalten ist. Ta Prohm wird mittlerweile von vielen Gerüsten gehalten und mit Fleißarbeit restauriert. Steine, die ausgebessert werden müssen, liegen wie bei einem gigantischen Puzzle mit Nummer versehen auf dem Gelände. Auf dem Tempel sind bereits neue Bäume gewachsen und für deren enorme Wurzeln, die sich um Wände und Steine schlängeln, ist der Tempel berühmt geworden.

🇬🇧 After we finished visiting Angkor Wat, the bus took us to the next temple - Ta Prohm. This one is maybe even more famous than Angkor Wat namely being the “Tomb Raider”- or “Indiana Jones”-temple. Lots of movies for Hollywood were filmed here. That is because the jungle is slowly taking back its territory and thus brings spectacular views to sight. All the temples are mostly build with sandstone (and ones similar to volcanic rocks build within the walls), but other than Angkor Wat Ta Prohm doesn’t have a 5m deep foundation into the ground to stabilize the whole building. This is why the other temple is still so well preserved. Ta Prohm needs to be stabilized by lots of framework and some of the stones that need to be restored are lying around the temple like a gigantic puzzle, all labeled and number. Today, many enormous trees are growing in top of the temple, their roots winding around walls and doors.Read more
