  • Música en vivo

    10. Juli 2019 in Kolumbien ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

Every Wednesday it’s the time for meeting up at Media Luna Street and Hostel (Getsemaní) to dance and listen to a live band playing Reggaeton and Champeta (typical music and dance of Cartagena). For us, it was the perfect chance to practice what we learned in Spanish and dance class during the day <3Weiterlesen

  • Everyday walk to school

    11. Juli 2019 in Kolumbien ⋅ ⛅ 28 °C

There is much more to show about the 25min walk from my guest family in one of the clean and protected urbanizations (La Española) to school in Getsemaní. Here is the good part of it.

On the downside there are two main streets packed with cars, taxis and motorcycles to cross without any pedestrian traffic lights (they do not seem to exist in Colombia at all and anyway a red light is no reason to stop after all). This part is followed by a bridge which is "home" to quite many homeless people and stray dogs before getting to the touristic area.Weiterlesen

  • Weekend at Tierra Bomba

    13. Juli 2019 in Kolumbien ⋅ ⛅ 31 °C

La Isla de Tierra Bomba is situated close to the city centre of Cartagena, just 15min crossing with a small speed boat. To sum up, it is a place where many Colombians go to relax and it is quite nice with its view on Cartagenas Bocagrande (however not comparable to truly Carribean islands, rather to a city beach).

*However, I wouldn't recommend to stay the night in a hotel (at least not in the one we booked). Ultimately, service was not existent and I got sick from the food quite immediately.

  • Islas del Rosario

    20. Juli 2019 in Kolumbien ⋅ ⛅ 29 °C

We were imagining a relaxing day trip to the Carribean islands with snorkeling and beach time, but it became a real adventure:

The boat trip started at Playa Blanca on island Barú, which is packed with locals and toursists at the same time. We were happy finally getting on the boat and making our way to Isla Grande, our snorkeling stop. However, the boat ride found an early end when the police boat stopped us and our boat turned out to be illegal... we had to turn around.

The tour guys tried hard to find a new boat, but it was impossible... Eventually, they checked for the police boat that was quite far away already... And accelerated the boat away from the beach. So somehow, we were on a boat escaping from the police and made our way to 'party island' (Isla Chólon).

That was the next surprise, a beach packed with yachts, each playing their own loud music, people celebrating in the water and suddenly we were part of them.

In the end, the trip turned out quite surprising, entertaining and much better than expexted😅

  • Medellín, la comuna 13

    25. Juli 2019 in Kolumbien ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

Medellín is famous for its history in drug trafficking, violence and Pablo Escobar, of course. The people here obviously don't want to be related to these topics all the time, comparably to the German history. However, it does not date back that long in history and violence is still present in may regions, especially the comuna 13 in Medellín.

It was centre of violence during the civil war (involving the guerillas of the Farc, military, police, the government and the drug cartels) and it still is dominated by gangs. It was quite shocking reading in a newspaper that more than 100 people are killed here each year and especially social leaders, that want to help their communities, are victim to death threats. This is true despite the fact that the government did a lot to develop the comuna by building ways and escalators for a better connection to the city (although for this, many families had to leave their homes!). The history and concerns of today's inhabitants are shown in the graffitis throughout the neighborhood.

  • La Piedra del Peñol y Guatapé

    26. Juli 2019 in Kolumbien ⋅ ⛅ 23 °C

You are driving through some farmland... and suddenly it appears, a tremendous stone out of the nowwhere. It is said that mystic things happened here (in reality the stone out of granite might be the result of an erosion process some million years ago). After walking up the almost 700 stairs, I was defintely expressed by the view and how high this stone rises over the land and its lakes around.Weiterlesen

  • El Cerro de Monserrate ~3200m

    29. Juli 2019 in Kolumbien ⋅ ⛅ 13 °C

My favorite spot in Bogotá - even though it takes a while until you get up the hill (cerro) with the tramway. On the top it seems like a small village in the Andes with its own small church and botanical garden. At an altitude of 3200m above sea level every steps feels a bit harder and temperatures go down to under 10 degrees at night. Unfortunately, we missed going up there for the sunset and the view over the city lights (of 8 Mio inhabitants) in the dark. Still, it was the best last day trip possible :)Weiterlesen
