On our way to St John's we made a quick stop in Dildo which is close to Spread Eagle on Conception Bay. Great names and no pun intended. At least that's what we have been told. Once we arrived in St John's we decided to spend our first night in Quidi Vidi. What a cool spot. The cliffs came right down to the water and the homes were brightly coloured and multilevel. There was a stream across the road from our parking spot with a little waterfall and a few rapids. It wasn't busy so we wandered around taking in the sights. There were a couple of trail heads and a boat launch so I'd imagine it would get busy on a nice day. We stopped in at Quidi Vidi Brewery I really like the Ice Berg beer. The next day we did a quick drive through the downtown area to see the Jelly Bean houses, they are as pretty as we'd imagined. The whole city seemed to be incorporating the vibrant colours which we really liked. There were two cruise ships at the waterfront. We headed up to Cape Spear and checked out the most easterly point point in Canada, the lighthouse and the lighthouse keepers residence. The guns and batteries from WW11 were also really interesting. Afterwards we took a drive through Petty Harbour. What a pretty little town. Our third stop for the day was Signal Hill. It was another beautiful spot rich in history with amazing views. An added bonus was the wild blueberries. They are just coming in season and along the trail we picked a full zip lock bag. We found a parking spot for the night across from the Johnson Geo Center. After getting settled we took an Uber downtown to explore George St. We listened to some really good music and had dinner before returning to the van around 10:30. A very busy day. The next morning we stopped in to see Ed Wison at his business before heading out of town. Originally we had planned on spending Thursday night on George St but found two nights in the city was good and we wanted to get back out in the small areas. I have to say I really dropped the ball taking pictures. None of George St or Petty Harbour.Read more
