• Twillingate

Another beautiful drive to Twillingate which is also on an island. No ferry today though just a series of causeways and bridges. It is a really pretty town built around the harbour. We found a place to park in town beside the water. We took a walk and had dinner at a local restaurant but the rain and fog had us heading back to the van. The next morning it was grey and cool but the rain held off. We headed to the Long Point Lighthouse for some absolutely crazy views. The wind was pretty strong so you had to be careful around the cliff edges but we thoroughly enjoyed hiking around the grounds. There was a small gift shop with a local fudge maker in residence. He made all the fudge in the shop and had a really good selection. We definitely enjoyed our purchase. We checked out a couple of wild campsites close to the lighthouse and chatted with some travelers from St Thomas. The island of Twillingate has a very extensive series of trails so we found one we liked for the afternoon. While on the trail we bumped in a couple who were parked above us on Fogo. I was amazed they were able to get their car and tiny trailer so far down the trail. We headed back to town to the Captains Pub at the Anchor Inn for some live entertainment. Mike Sixonate was so good. He was a great story teller and a very talented musician and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening in the pub. The wind was howling so our parking spot from last night would have been very loud. The back parking lot of the United Church welcomes travelers so we headed there to sleep. It was so protected we didn't hear or feel any wind. We really enjoyed Twillingate and highly recommend it as a destination. We left Twillingate heading west, not really sure where but our end goal will be Gross Morne.Read more
