• Heading West

We stopped for a break in Grand Falls Windsor on our way west. Picked up a few supplies and found the Corduroy Brook Nature Trail. We had a great walk through a wooded area along a small river and a series of ponds. The trail was well marked and had some interesting information posted along the way. There are several trails to choose from and we walked two, Dragonfly and Snowshoe Rabbit. I loved how they named their trails. What a nice break. We thought we should do some laundry and have showers so we looked for a campground. The one we chose in Springdale ended up being closed for the season. Our second choice was a little sketchy but we accomplished our goals and made the best of it. The next morning we stopped in Deer Lake and got a nice hike in before the rain started in earnest. The Humber River Trail was really nice. The first part was really well groomed, had some quirky and cool art installations and ran along the river. It gradually became wilder and really muddy. Eventually it opened up and was a multi purpose trail for atvs and snow machines in the winter. The road from Deer Lake to Rocky Harbour was spectacular as we entered the edges of Grand Morne. Randy spotted a black bear on the roadside. It was big and so shiny. It went into the forest but we did get a good look first. It started pouring and the wind really picked up. We were driving through some high elevations and the views were amazing.Read more
