• Western Brook Pond and the Tablelands

The Western Brook Pond boat tour was something we were really looking forward to. We checked the long range forecast and Sunday looked like the best day. No rain, some sun but high winds. High winds are pretty much a given though. Crystal and Tiffany had changed their reservations to Sunday so we were looking forward to seeing them again. We got to the parking lot super early and had breakfast while we waited. It was a three kilometer walk to the boat on a well maintained trail through some beautiful bog land and meadows. We kept a close watch for caribou or moose but other than a few birds no wildlife sightings. We stood in line early to make sure we could get seats outside on the top deck. Even up top we did get a little wet. Glacial facials was what Jamie our tour guide called it when the spray came over the side. He was a very knowledgeable and entertaining guide. The trip was awesome and exceeded our expectations. The walk back was really nice too. The sun was shining and it felt warm after the last few days. We said so long to the girls, their ferry is on Wednesday so they have to move on a little more quickly. We stopped in Norris Point for a late lunch at the Cat Stop pub. Excellent smash burger and tomato basel soup. Our plan was to hike the Tablelands tomorrow so we headed towards Woody Point to find a place to stay. We did a quick tour of Woody Point and stopped in at the Legion for a nice chat with a couple of locals. So many people we meet share they have moved home from Alberta or Ontatio once they retired. Even the license plates say "Come Home". We found a little campground called Waters Edge for the night. The next day we absolutely loved the Tablelands Hike. It wasn't too challenging and the rain was only a light drizzle so we were quite comfortable. There were lots of people and a few nice dogs but not overly crowded. Once we finished the hike we headed to Corner Brook for the night.Read more
