Cape St George and Long Point.

After a wonderful hot shower and a relaxing morning we headed out for Cape George. Tiffany and Crystal gave us a heads up about a really nice place to park up right at the cape. After passing Cornerbrook there weren’t many towns or even houses until we got close to Stephenville. We headed west before Stephenville and went through the small community of Port au Port and passed one of the biggest gravel pits I've ever seen. As we were driving we passed Crystal and Tiffany who spent their last two nights camped at Cape St George. We both pulled over for a quick catch up and a final final goodbye. We followed the coast to the most westerly point which was Cape St George. The village of Mainland set up a community park with several camp sites, a playground, bathrooms and trails. We chose a site surrounded by trees as the wind was forecasted to really pickup. The trail was stunning and ran along a cliff with a sheer drop to the sea below. Very scary at times especially when the wind gusts were 40 kilometers an hour. We met a lovely dog Tilly and her people Brian and Jamie. Brian was originally from Cornerbrook but ended up in Manchester for 30 plus years after university. He convinced Jamie to move to Newfoundland a few years ago and they were loving it. We hung out with them and wandered the gorgeous trails. Tilly was great company. We also could see seals playing in the waves far below. We had a really nice stay here but decided to continue our exploring the next morning. This part of Newfoundland is very remote and there is no cell service but when we were driving to Long Point there was free starlink at the Parish Hall in Lourdes. We sat in the parking lot and caught up with the outside world. The weather forecast does not look good so we decided to head to Stephenville after checking out Long Point. Almost to the end of the road we saw an Action Trailer. Small world. We drove as far as we could and could see the Gulf of St Lawrence on both sides of the road.Read more
