• Heading for the Ferry

    Sep 17–20 in Canada ☁️ 16 °C

We needed to do laundry and Paddy's Pub in Stephenville had a laundry mat attached. The weather was not great so we thought an afternoon doing laundry in a pub was a wonderful idea. Before the rain we took a walk through Stephenville and found the bakery Brian and Jamie told us about. Coconut cream pie, a chocolate eclair and chocolate macaroon left with us. Unfortunately Paddy's is only open Friday and Saturday so no laundry. We had dinner out and a quiet night in Stephenville. I didn't even take a photo. The next morning the weather was even worse. We stopped at a beautiful beach between showers and were able to get a nice long walk in. We stopped at Grand Codroy RV park and did get our laundry done. The winds were so strong we were happy to be in a sheltered parking spot. We did have wifi so after laundry we watched an old Clint Eastwood film. The park had some beautiful trails but we didn’t get a chance to explore. We were glad we pushed our ferry out till Sunday because the Friday evening and all Saturday sailings were canceled. Saturday morning was cold and very windy but no rain so we set out to explore the Codroy Valley. We drove to Cape Anguille to see the lighthouse. This is the most westerly spot in Newfoundland. There was a very cool inn located in the lighthouse keepers lodging. The waves were unbelievable. On our drive we passed an abbatoir and Randy decided to go in. During hunting season they told him they dress approximately 100 moose a week. They were working on several and he said it was quite a sight. I stayed in the van. We slowly made our way to Port Aux Basques and the Shark Cove RV park for the night before our crossing. It was a small place in town and very close to the ferry terminal. Most of the people there were waiting for crossings. Those scheduled on the canceled sailings had to wait till Monday. We walked to the Legion and watched a dart tournament for the afternoon. Randy wanted to go out for dinner but there weren't any places close enough to walk. Most of the choices were fast food so we decided to stay in. We loved our time in Newfoundland but we were looking forward to starting the journey home.Read more
