(or Big Dam) is the largest of seven dams built on the Dee River by the Mount Morgan Gold Mining Company.

Water was an important part of keeping the mine operating and the number of dams along the river's course is reflective of Mount Morgan's and the gold mining company's ongoing struggle with water.

A long wait.

The Dam was dug during the 1902 drought but it was not filled until may of 1904 For a town and mine so dependant on water it was a long wait indeed! At the closure of the mine the No. 7 Dam was signed over to the Mount Morgan Shire Council and became a vital addition to the town's water supply The wall was raised 4.5 metres in 1998 and was officially opened in 1999.

Late spring rains in 2000 saw the dam full to the new level. This greatly increased Mount Morgan's water supply The Big Dam is a popular recreational spot for Mount Morgan townspeople and visitors alike. The Dam is restocked with fingerlings each year.Читать далее
