    Birds at Bloomsbury

    May 4, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 25 °C

A visit to Cliff and Marj’s place is always lovely. The bushland setting is great as are the birds that visit. The blue-winged kookaburra is not one of Marj’s favourites due to his hunting of small birds but a beautiful looking bird all the same. Feel special that we can visit occasionally.

  • Birds at Lake Proserpine and Surrounds

    May 8, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 25 °C

I put Lake Proserpine/ Peter Faust Dam on the list as a place to camp. The reports suggested it was a great free camp but apparently not for much longer. Camp Kanga just down the road was a paid campground which we moved to when we thought the dam camp would be busy. Camp Kanga was a great place except for the wild bull down by the creek and the wandering cat stalking the birdlife. It was advertised as a flora and fauna sanctuary so I didn’t expect to see a cat. Apparently it belonged to the caretakers of this camp.

  • Elim Beach Bird Discoveries

    May 29, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ☁️ 15 °C

Our last visit to Elim Beach had me discovering quite a few visiting shorebirds. It was not quite so busy this time. I really had to hunt the environment to find any. I was rather disappointed but just loving how unspoilt this place is made up for the scarcity of birds. Even with it being rather quiet, I was able to find these birds.

  • Birds Seen Between Stops

    July 27, 2021 in Australia ⋅ ⛅ 26 °C

From Burketown to Cloncurry we often saw birds as we drove the highway. Sometimes we would stop and successfully get a decent photo. Pictures here are from Pam.

This list will grow as we note more birds that did not fit in a specific place.

South of Bourke and Wills Roadhouse.
    Brown Falcon

Great Wedge Tail Eagles seen a few times dining on road kill, usually in court with Torresian Crows, Whistling Kites and Brown Kites. It was interesting to watch the crows taking the head of the table while the kites waited in line. When the huge Wedge-tailed Eagle dropped in for lunch, the kites and crows all left. We have seen all these birds together in some cases.
